Biography
Wendy Cukier is a professor of Information Technology and the Associate Dean, Academic, Faculty of Business, Ryerson University. Her research interests are wide ranging and inter-disciplinary. One are of emphasis is media discourse and its relationship to decision making an policy. She has also one has written extensively on violence prevention strategies, advocacy techniques and organizations as well as on gender. She is a judge for the Canadian Information Productivity Awards and a reviewer for NSERC, SSHRC, the Academy of Management and the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada. She is also the co-founder and President of the Coalition for Gun Control and a founding member of the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA) and has been active at the United Nations.. She has received two honorary doctorates and the Governor General's Meritorious Service Cross (Civilian Division)for her volunteer work.. She has been a YWCA Woman of Distinction as well as a JWI Woman of the Year. She is the recipient of awards from the Canadian Public Health Association, the Canadian Criminal Justice Association and the Ottawa Police Services. In 2000 she was named one of "100 Alumni who shaped the century" by the University of Toronto.
Research Interests
Media discourse and public policy, technology strategy and decision making;; technology enabled learning; advocacy organizations and technology,; gender, public health, social marketing and violence prevention.
