If you have studied literature in Canada, chances are that you have already begun to study at York. Over the past three generations, directly and indirectly, York’s English faculty has shaped the ways in which literary study is carried out across the country. Our students are drawn to our reputation for adventurous, interdisciplinary, and innovative approaches to literature. They enjoy a supportive, challenging, and intellectually lively program of study. York's prize-winning graduate faculty offer courses across the historical sweep of English-language literatures in all genres from their very beginnings to today’s global spectrum of voices and expressive forms. Our tradition has always been to challenge the idea of tradition itself, to seek out the limits of established ideas and to attend to new ones. Today, our doctoral graduates are professors at the University of British Columbia, the University of Alberta, Queens University, McGill University, the University of New Brunswick, and elsewhere across North America.
