The application deadline is January 15 (or the following Monday when January 15 falls on a weekend).

International applicants are advised to check with their home countries on how to obtain a student visa to study in Canada. This inquiry should be made as early as possible --– even before acceptance to the program – as it can be a lengthy process.

Your application consists of an Application Package, Transcripts and a Portfolio. Below are the steps you must follow to ensure your application will be considered.

STEP ONE: The Application Package

The official application forms for applying to the program for the following September are available online or from the Graduate Program Office in Film and Video the previous August (e.g, for September 2006 entry, forms are available in August 2005).

Download necessary forms and view a list of all documents required for your Application Package.

You can also request an Application Package to be mailed to you by contacting the department directly: 416 736-2100 ext 22174 or email us at gradfilm@yorku.ca.

STEP TWO: Portfolio Requirements

View requirements (including portfolio requirements) for Cinema and Media Studies, Production, or Screenwriting.

STEP THREE: Order Transcripts

You must submit two official sealed copies of each transcript from every post secondary institution you have attended. Official transcripts must come directly from, and bear the unbroken seal of, the issuing institution.

All foreign language transcripts must be accompanied by a translation from an official translation office. All translations must come directly from, and bear the unbroken seal of, the official translation office.

You must provide three letters of reference from former teachers or professionals familiar with your academic, creative, and/or professional work. Instruct your referees to fill out the Letter of Recommendation Form included in the Application Package and include that Form with the letter. If letters are sent to the applicant, they must be in a sealed envelope with the referees signature across the envelope seal. Referees may also send letters of reference directly to the Graduate Program in Film & Video office.

STEP FOUR: Complete Application Package & Portfolio Requirements

Collect all completed documents and materials necessary for the Application Package and Portfolio. Ensure all forms are complete and no pages are missing.

STEP FIVE: Send All Materials to the Required Locations
