How to Apply

The admissions process for the MPPAL program at York is competitive. To be considered for admission, candidates must have:

  1. Completed an Honours Bachelors degree or its equivalent from a recognized University with a minimum grade point average of B+ in the final two years and a minimum of five years work experience in a relevant public sector management, administrative, or supervisory position.

    OR

  2. Completed an Honours Bachelors degree or its equivalent from a recognized University with a minimum grade point average of A in the final two years. Under this category, students may have completed less than five years work experience in a relevant public sector management, administrative, or supervisory position.
Preference will be given to students who have completed an Honours Bachelors degree in Public Administration or Political Science with an emphasis on public administration.

At the discretion of the selection committee, in exceptional circumstances, students who have completed a three-year Bachelors degree with a minimum grade point average of B+ and have significant work experience in terms of time frame and/or quality of experience (specifically more than five years work experience in a relevant public sector management, administrative, or supervisory position) may be recommended for admission to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Note also: Although it is not a prerequisite, students are advised that they may find it helpful to have completed a university level two-term introductory course covering both microeconomics and macroeconomics (ECON 1000/1010 or equivalent) prior to enrolling in the MPPAL.

The application deadline to apply is Jan. 31 , 2013 . By this date, the on-line application must be completed. The Admissions Office will retrieve transcripts from students who graduated with York University degrees, but transcripts from other universities must be sent by those universities to the York University Admissions Office as soon as possible after the on-line application is completed. It is preferable for the letters of reference, supplemental application and writing sample to be sent to the MPPAL Program Office, 119 McLaughlin Building, York University, Toronto, ON M3J 1P3.

Applicants must submit a CV or resumé, and provide a statement of areas of interest outlining their experience and background as well as   the Supplemental Information Form (SIF).

As well, applicants  will be asked to provide three professional references with their contact information. One reference should be from a supervisor or former supervisor, or a co-worker. Another should be an academic If you are unable to contact an academic reference, please refer to the MPPAL program office for advice (416-736-2100 ext 77528). We reserve the right to contact your references for confirmation.

Students who are eligible for the MPPAL will also be eligible to complete the Graduate Diploma in Justice System Administration and/or the Graduate Diploma in Democratic Administration.
