General Information (i.e. description of the site, clients seen, services offered, is it TTC accessible? etc.)
Southlake Regional Health Centre is located in Newmarket, Ontario, about a half hour drive from York University.  The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Department includes the following programs: The Child and Family Clinic for Specialized Mental Health Services, The Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders Program, The Disruptive Behaviour Disorders Program, the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Day Hospital Program, a Child and Adolescent Psychiatric/Mental Health Inpatient Unit, and an Urgent Care Service to the Emergency Department.  The bulk of the training opportunities are offered within the Child and Family Clinic for Specialized Mental Health Services and the Eating Disorders Program.

The Child and Family Clinic for Specialized Mental Health Services provides mental health care to children, youth, and families struggling with child/adolescent mental health struggles creating significant functional difficulties for the child and/or family. The team provides intensive assessment and treatment using a multi-modal approach to treatment that is based on available knowledge of evidence-based best practice. Diagnostic issues in the identified child/adolescent may include, but are not limited to, anxiety disorders (including obsessive/compulsive disorder), mood disorders, attachment disorders, cognitively high functioning autism spectrum disorders, trauma, and developing psychotic disorders. The identified child/adolescent clients range up to 18 years of age.   Comprehensive, as well as focused psychological assessments are conducted.  A wide range of therapeutic approaches (i.e., CBT, EFT, narrative, IPT, psychodynamic/attachment-based) and modalities (i.e., family, group, and individual) are used in an integrative and evidence-informed manner.

The Eating Disorders Program offers assessment and treatment (including outpatient and day treatment) to adolescents with eating disorders.  Psychotherapy is offered from a variety of theoretical orientations and in a variety of modalities (i.e., family, individual, and group).

Supervision (i.e. Is there more than one potential supervisor? group and/or individual? How often? etc.)
There is one psychologist and three psychological associates on staff at Southlake Regional Health Centre.  Supervision is provided in a variety of modalities and an individual supervision plan is developed in collaboration with the student, in order to optimally meet the goals and needs of each student.  However, supervision offered typically includes observation of supervisor (live), observation of student (live), supervision based on recorded work, individual supervision (minimum 1 hour per week), and various forms of group supervision.  Additionally, opportunities for working with and learning from various hospital staff, from different disciplines and programs, are available.

A small piece of program evaluation/research is a required component of both practicum placements.  Opportunities for more extensive research are also available to interested students.
