The Paavo and Aino Lukkari Human Rights Fellowship (a GSMP award)

Eligible area of study: The Paavo and Aino Lukkari Human Rights Fellowship will be awarded annually to a graduate student whose research is on human rights and social justice issues related to the situation of indigenous people and/or people o African descent in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Selection criteria: (a) Graduate Student whose research is on human rights and social justice issues related to the situation of indigenous people and/or people of African descent in Latin American and the Caribbean; (b) Academic accomplishments (i.e. must have a minimum "A-" average; (c) Must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protect persons, residents of Ontario; (d) Must demonstrate financial need.
Application / nomination package: (a) Statement of research; (b) CV; (c) Two letters of support; (d) Transcripts; (e) Letter of nomination from the director of CERLAC; and, (f) Student Financial Profile.
Process: The application process requires nomination from the Centre of Research on Latin American and the Caribbean (CERLAC). All students whose research is on human rights and social justice issues related to the situation of indigenous people and/or people of African descent in Latin America and the Caribbean should contact CERLAC to indicate their interest in being considered for awards that will commence in September of that year.
FGS deadline: Program nominations with complete documentation are due to Sandra Yiu in the Office of the Dean, Graduate Studies by April 1. The Faculty of Graduate Studies Awards Committee will review nominees for eligibility.
