Graduate Diploma in Voice Teaching

Only applicants with significant prior teaching experience will be considered for a teaching diploma program.

Qualified students in the acting or directing streams can apply for the unique Graduate Diploma in Voice Teaching. This diploma trains voice specialists to be effective teachers and to have a solid practical grounding in the functions of an acting/movement/voice ensemble.

To register for the diploma, candidates must first be admitted to the acting or directing program, ie. the diploma cannot be undertaken on its own. Voice teacher trainees will complete the full acting or directing program. In addition, their course of study will include:

• weekly voice teachers’ seminar
• voice teaching and coaching assignments with productions on and off campus
• assistant teaching at the National Voice Intensive
• a major voice training research paper

The voice training includes voice science, anatomy and physiology, language, speech sounds, phonetics, dialect, coaching techniques and traditional and non-traditional approaches to voice.
