About the Program
Complementing its well-known graduate program in applied theatre, York University’s Department of Theatre offers three graduate programs in Theatre Studies. Internationally recognized faculty offer advanced seminars and mentor student research in Theatre and Performance Studies in one of the English-speaking world’s most active cities for theatre and the performing arts.
The Graduate Program in Theatre Studies offers two programs:
The program emphasizes the following fields of specialization:
- Post-Colonial Theatre and Drama, with specific reference to Canadian First Nations theatre and performance, as well as African and Latin American theatre and performance;
- Performance Studies and Theories of Theatre and Performance, with particular attention to criticism and publishing;
- Theatre, Health and Social Change, with specific reference to theatre for social change as well as gender and sexuality studies, theatre and spirituality, and the applications of theatre within medical and health disciplines.
