Naila Keleta-Mae Naila Keleta-Mae

Naila Keleta-Mae is an accomplished interdisciplinary artist and scholar who was already well-known for her spoken word performance and insightful cultural critique before she joined the PhD program in Theatre Studies at York University. She was recently honored by the International Federation for Theatre Research with the prestigious 2011 Emerging Scholar award, and was flown to Japan by IFTR to accept the honor. She also received a Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship to support her doctoral studies, as well as an Ontario Graduate Scholarship, and was offered a Susan Manning Dissertation Fellowship. She is currently completing her dissertation, which examines black women’s identities as a type of perpetual performance. In addition to a range of workshops and guest lectures throughout Canada, she has taught interdisciplinary arts at Goddard College in Vermont and is beginning a tenure-stream job in Theatre at University of Waterloo in Kitchener.
