Sport Administration Certificate

INTRODUCTION:

Established in 1980, this program is designed to provide both current and future sport professionals with a blend of theoretical and practical skills through a variety of learning experiences. The rapidly growing profession of sport administration demands a special breed of manager/administrator – one who has solid management and leadership credentials combined with a thorough understanding and appreciation of the culture of sport. A variety of career options is available to graduates. Graduating students are well prepared for entry-level positions in the management of professional or community sport organizations, corporate event marketing, and municipal recreation.
 

YORK UNIVERSITY SPORT ADMINISTRATION ASSOCIATION - (YUSAA)

Students accepted into the program join the Sport Administration Association and participate in a variety of administrative and professional development activities such as conferences, fund-raising activities and special event management.
 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

The program is open to undergraduate students in any faculty, and recent graduates or professionals currently employed in the sport management field. All candidates must have completed, or be pursuing, a degree with Honours standing. Applicants are evaluated on the basis of academic performance, personal resume, letter of application, letters of recommendation (2) and an interview with the Program Coordinator.
 

REQUIRED ACADEMIC COURSES:

Students complete the following courses (total of 24credits).
KINE 2380 3.0: Introduction to Sport Administration
KINE 3240 3.0: Behavioural Approach to Administration of Fitness and Sport
KINE 3490 3.0: Politics and Policy in the Sport Industry
KINE 3510 3.0: Sport Marketing and Event Management
KINE 4430 3.0: Business Skills for Sport and Fitness Professionals
KINE 4530 3.0: Sport Administration Fieldwork Placement
KINE 4545 6.0: Sport Administration Applied Research Perspectives
