1. Are you confused about what the degree requirements are for the psychology program?

If you have any questions about the psychology program, come in and pick up a Psychology supplemental calendar AND seek advice from the helpful staff at the Department of Psychology's undergraduate studies office Rm 291/292 Behavoural Sciences Building, (BSB), or call (416) 736-5117 to make an appointment.


2. Are you having trouble reading all the material assigned to you by your professors?

If yes, then you probably would benefit from contacting the Counseling and Disability Services (CDS) .The CDS has a series of on-line materials and self directed presentations that will help you to enhance your reading skills, learn how to take lecture notes, manage your time more effectively, handle stress and prepare for exams. You can access this information via the Internet.

Go to the CDS home page and click on learning skills. You can browse the site and download what you need or you can register in one of the learning skills workshops available throughout the Fall and Winter terms. The workshops are free and you can register in Rm N110 BCSS or phone the general number 416-736-5297.

3. Do you find your professor covers a lot of material in the lecture and it is difficult for you to figure out the important points that you should be writing down?

6. Is English your second language and you are finding it difficult to keep up with the reading or writing a quality essay?

7. Has your first essay/assignment been returned to you and you cannot believe how low you have been graded?

It is possible that you are having a difficult time making the transition to university level writing. In order to improve your writing skills, you should contact the Writing centre where through individual instruction or group workshops you will learn to improve your essay writing skills.


8. Are you in a course that requires library research or a literature search?

If so, then you will need to learn how to use the library. To learn how to take advantage of the library resources, you can watch an on-line presentation.

If you need to do a literature search to find journal articles or books for an essay, you may find the link to the "Library Research Roadmap" tutorial especially helpful.

9. Do you have questions about plagiarism?

If you want to learn how to avoid plagiarism while writing that perfect essay, then go to the online tutorial on "academic integrity".

10. Are you looking for a tutor to help you with your psychology courses?

Are you having difficulty with the stats course or perhaps you just want to talk to other Psychology students? Are you interested in learning more about available workshops for psychology students (such as how to study for your Graduate Record Exam (GRE))? Or perhaps you just want to talk to other psychology students? 12. What is the procedure if you missed a test or exam?

13. Are you an honours student and want to know more about writing the GRE's applying for graduate scholarships, or doing an honours thesis etc?

Information sessions will be held on a variety of topics of intrest to honours students who are in their 3rd or 4th year of the honours program. 14. Were you accepted into Psychology Arts or Atkinson in 2006, but then transferred to the Faculty of Health, and you wonder how will this affect your degree requirements ?

  • On July 1, 2006, York University created a new Faculty of Health. The Psychology program in the Faculty of Arts and Atkinson Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies merged into one department in the Faculty of Health.
  • For the 2006 - 2007 academic year students who were accepted into either Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Science & Engineering or the Atkinson Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies followed the degree requirements of the Faculty they were initially accepted into.
