York University's Department of Psychology is the largest in Canada with over seventy faculty members actively working and contributing to almost every aspect of Psychology from animal behaviour to the philosophy of Psychology. Our faculty are conducting innovative and leading-edge research on a wide range of topics that reflect the breadth of our seven different research areas Brain, Behaviour and Cognitive Sciences; Clinical; Clinical /Developmental; Developmental and Cognitive Processes; History and Theory of Psychology; Quantitative Methods and Social and Personality. Both of our clinical areas are accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association.
At York, students have the privilege of studying with internationally recognized researchers who are experts in the areas in which they teach while exploring such concepts as motivation, emotion, learning, perception and actions from cognitive, social and biological perspectives.
Department of Psychology faculty were among the founding members of York University. Members of the department have contributed to the history of Canadian Psychology not only as academicians, but as professional and scientific leaders, and as administrators during the formative years of York's development.
Our work has been featured in publications and media throughout the world and we are proud of the numerous awards our faculty have received, including more than 50 major awards in the last decade, including the pre-eminent Fellowship of Royal Society of Canada, the Steacie Prize and the Killam Research Fellow awards.
The Psychology Department is affiliated with York University's Centre for Vision Research, Statistical Consulting Service, the York Institute for Health Research, Institute for Social Research, Centre for Refugee Studies, Centre for Research in Earth and Space Science and the LaMarsh Centre for Child and Youth Research.
