Faculty of Health Internal Research Funding
Faculty of Health Conference Travel Funds
Conference travel funds are awarded to full-time faculty members to offset the cost of travel to conferences. Faculty members may apply for up to $1,000 per fiscal year.
Deadline: Applications will be considered three times each fiscal year, on May 1, October 1 and February 1.
Faculty of Health Minor Research Grants
Minor research grants are available to assist faculty in conducting research projects that do not require or are not eligible for major resources.
Deadline: Applications will be considered twice each fiscal year on May 1 and November 5.
Faculty of Health Junior Faculty Funds
Junior Faculty Funds are available to provide junior faculty members with grants to support research projects.
Deadline: Applications will be considered once each fiscal year on November 5.
Specific Research Grant (leave)
Specific Research Grant (non-leave)
This program permits, under certain conditions, a researcher to receive a research grant in lieu of salary. The expenditures proposed must be warranted in the context of the research outlined and may not be duplicated in any other grants received by the researcher. Please note that there are tax and pension implications associated with this program.
Deadline: Applications will be considered on the first day of February, May and November.
Dean's Health Research Catalyst Award
The Dean’s Health Research Catalyst Award award supports faculty members via course release in developing and advancing their research program.
Deadline: Applications will be considered once a year, on October 20.
York University Internal Research Funding
SSHRC Small Grants
SSHRC Small Grants are offered to support full-time faculty members in the humanities and social sciences with pilot studies, opportunistic small projects, to round out work on larger projects, and projects not readily funded elsewhere.
Deadline: October 31 and March 31
Value: Up to $4,000 for one year.
SSHRC Grant in Aid of Travel
This program provides assistance to full-time social science and humanities faculty members to attend national and international conferences at which the applicant is giving a paper or making a substantial presentation.
Deadline: February 1, May 1, August 1, November 1
Value: Awards are modest, and generally will not exceed the cost of coach airfare.
York Ad Hoc Conference Travel Grants
Full-time faculty members may apply for travel grants to national and international conferences at which a substantial presentation will be made. This is a last resort fund.
Deadline: March 15, June 15, September 15, and December 15
Value: Awards will be made up to the cost of return minimum airfare.
York Ad Hoc Conference Grants and Periodical Support Grants
Two grants are available to help defray the cost of conferences held at York that are open to faculty and students, and to support the publication of a new periodical.
Deadline: December 15
Value: Awards are usually in the $500-$1,000 range.
Walter L. Gordon Research Fellowship
This program recognizes merit in research or creative work by providing an individual scholar with opportunities to complete projects requiring a period of intensive effort, free of teaching and other university responsibilities. Please note that this fellowship is not offered every year. The Office of Research Services will announce competition years.
Deadline: January 15
Value: Full salary and benefits for one academic year.
York Incentive Grant
The objective of this program is to defray costs that are essential to the preparation of a successful grant application, such as those associated with assembling collaborative teams. Funds are intended to assist in the development of large-scale initiatives involving significant external funding. These grants are not awarded to support the preparation of applications for the usual Tri-Council programs of research support.
Deadline: March 1 and August 1
Value: Approximately $5,000 for 18 months.
York Seminar for Advanced Research
This is a year-long seminar that provides a forum in which a small group of distinguished scholars working in closely related fields can consult extensively on a particular theme. The Seminar aims to foster informal yet deep discussion, exploration of the limits of specialized fields, and enduring professional and intellectual contacts. Calls for proposals are usually made in the fall.
Value: $7,500 for one year.
Deadline: November 30
