York University’s Commitment to Employment Equity

The University welcomes applications from all qualified individuals, including individuals within the University's employment equity categories of women, persons with disabilities, members of visible minorities and aboriginal persons, individuals of diverse gender and sexual orientation and all groups protected by the Human Rights Code.  York University is committed to employment equity and diversity and a positive and supportive environment.

York University participates in the Federal Contractors Program (FCP) under the Employment Equity Act, and is required to monitor its representation with respect to four designated groups: women, visible minorities, persons with disabilities and Aboriginal peoples.

The goals of Employment Equity at York are to:

Put into place positive policies and practices to ensure that the effects of systemic barriers are eliminated.
Track the representation of designated group members at York. See the Self-Identification Survey - Presentation for more details.
Ensure appropriate representation of designated group members throughout York’s workforce.
Foster a climate of equity and attract diverse talent to York.
Collaborate with the York community in an ongoing planning process to achieve the above goals.

The Federal Contractors Program (FCP)

York is a participant of the Federal Contractors Program (FCP). The FCP applies to provincially regulated employers with a national workforce in Canada of 100 or more employees, and who receive federal government goods or services contracts of $1,000,000 or more. As a condition for bidding on large federal contracts, such contractors are required to certify in writing their commitment to employment equity and to comply with the criteria and guidelines of the FCP, which are based on the Employment Equity Act.

York is committed to correcting the conditions of disadvantage in employment experienced by the four designated groups under the Employment Equity Act: women, Aboriginal peoples, persons with disabilities and members of visible minorities.
