Janczak, for “Design and Information Architecture” Adobe Premiere 5.1 Tutorial Two: Adding transitions Position the first clip in the Video 1A track and the second clip in the Video 1B track. The portions of clips should overlap (try one second duration). In the Transition palette select a transition and drag it into the transition track. Click 2x on a transition in the transition track to adjust setting as needed. Preview the project To create a preview file adjust the Work Area Bar in the Timeline to cover the part you want to preview and choose Project>Preview or press the Return key. The preview file will play in the Program view of the Monitor. Preview files are stored in a folder “Adobe Premiere Preview File”, created by the application and stored in the project folder. Preview effects of a transition: move the pointer into the time ruler, hold down the Option key, drag the pointer horizontally in the time ruler. Hold down the Option and Shift keys to preview effects involving Alpha channels. Adding still images Import Photoshop or Illustrator files. See Help>Importing clips for more info. Drag a file from the project window to the Video track. To preserve the proportions of a still image choose File>Preferences>General/Still Images and select Lock Aspect before importing the image. Extend the image clip with with the selection tool (it changes to the ripple tool at both ends of a still image). The default duration of a still is 30 frames, to change it choose General Preferences>Still Image>Default Duration and change the figure. If a still or a movie clip are placed in a Video 2 channel or higher channels, you can modify the transparency of a stll or a clip. To modifythe transparency adjust the red line in the expanded channel view below the image To export a frame from the Timeline as a still: select a frame, go File>Export>Frame, in the dialog box click on the Settings button. Select File Type: PICT (or another type), click OK, enter the file name and extension (.pct), select where to save the file, click OK. Import the file into the project. To make the white background of a still image transparent, place an image in the Video 2 track (or higher), above the clip you want to superimpose. Select the image clip in the Track window and choose Clip>Video>Transparency (Command G). In the Transparency Setting dialog box select Key Type: White Alpha Matte (to make the white background transparent) and select the Page Peel icon in the Sample area to preview the effect. Click OK. You can also apply the transparency effects to movie clips (try Luminance, Multiply, Screen). Typography/Titles Choose File>New>Title. Choose Window>Title Window options: enter the required size, check the 4:3 aspect. If you select the Opaque option, the bacground will remain opaque, without the selection it will be transparent. Select the type tool and type the text. In the Menue select Title and modify the settings: font, size, style atc.. Modify the size and position of thre text box. Go File>Save and save the file (filename.pic) to a folder. Kerning options. Drop shadow options. Colour, opacity, gradients. Using a clip image as the background. A default background colour is black and if you fade-out a clip, the screen becomes black. If you want to change it, create a new title file with a coloured rectangle and place it in a track below the clip. You can also use a coloured title file to colorize an image. Adding motion to a still or a movie clip Select the clip, choose Clip>Video>Motion (Command Y). In the Motion Settings dialog box define the new motion path by dragging the Start and End points to a new position or by changing their coordinates. To add motion points click on the motion path. Select a point and modify Rotation, Zoom and Delay values. Edit the Distortion. Click OK. By adding the motion effect to stills you can create an impression of a video clip. Adding sound files Import the sound files (.aif, waw.). Drag a file from the project window to the Audio track. The expanded view of the track shows the waveform of the sound clip. You can modify the sound level by adjusting the red line in the sound track. You can lock video and audio tracks, you can also make tracks invisible/silent by selecting or deselectint the eye and/or audio icon. Voice recording with Premiere Choose File>Capture>Audio Capture. In the toolbar choose Audio Capture>Sound Input and select settings (22050 Hz, 16 bits, Stereo, Volume: set as required). If a yellow sound bar does not appear when you check the microphone, choose Apple>Control panels>Sound>Input and select External Mic. Click record button in the Audio Recorder window, record the voice, click Stop. Play the sound clip to check the quality and save it. Premiere saves it as an .aif file. Import it to the Project window. Saving a track from a CD Choose File>Import>File, find the CD and select a track. Click Convert>Options, select settings (for this project: 22.050 kHz, Mono, 16 bit) and duration, click OK and save the file (filename.aif). Premiere saves it as an .aif file and places it in the Project window. |
