My tenure at
York
University Libraries
included responsibilities for processing materials in science &
technology, and collection enhancement in foreign languages &
literatures and linguistics. My specialty was non-Roman languages. I served
on librarian search and review committees, the Promotion and Continuing Appointment
Committee, and on Senate as the library's representative. I retired in July 2008 after 38 years at York.
I was an active member of
OCUFA
(Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations) for several
years, being a member and Chair of the Collective Bargaining Committee;
sat on Executive as member-at-large, and Board; member and Chair of the Teaching and Academic Librarianship Awards Committee; appointed by OCUFA to the selection committee for
the 2007
LIFT
(Leadership in Faculty Teaching) awards. I remain on Board as
OCUFA Retiree Liaison.
I was an active member of
YUFA
(York University Faculty Association), serving for many years in various
capacities: Libraries' Chief Steward and Co-Chair of the Contract & Grievance Committee;
Negotiating and Bargaining Priorities Subcommittees; JCOAA, and Joint Benefits and Long Range Planning Committees; Stewards' Council, and Chair of the YUFA Library
Chapter.
My personal and
professional research interests are the Russian language and culture, and
the reformation of
education in post-Soviet Russia. My husband and I are involved with an organization of
Russian-Americans and Canadians whose goal is to help resurrect and
support cadet corps schools for boys (and more recently girls) between the ages of 10 and 18, similar in ideals
and curriculum to those in pre-revolutionary Russia.
The
Russian
Vocabulary was initiated as a sabbatical project in 1994/1995 with B.T. Chumakov. Revision and expansion took place
on subsequent sabbaticals in 2002/2003 and 2007/2008.
