Janet Walker

Janet Walker joined the faculty of Osgoode Hall Law School in 1996. She had received a BA (Hons) and a MA at York University and she was the Silver Medalist in Osgoode's class of 1993. She clerked for the Chief Justice of Ontario and the Justices of the Court of Appeal for Ontario. As the 1995 Viscount Bennett Fellow, she pursued doctoral studies at Oxford University. Her thesis is entitled The Constitution of Canada and the Conflict of Laws.

Janet Walker worked as a Researcher in the Litigation Department of Tory, Tory, DesLauriers and Binnington. In 1996, she assisted the Honourable CL Dubin, QC in An Independent Review of the Canadian Medical Protective Association. She is currently an International Advisor to the American Law Institute in its project to develop Transnational Rules of Civil Procedure.

Professor Walker's main areas of research are the conflict of laws, international commercial law, civil litigation and advocacy. She has published articles in these and other areas. In addition, she is co-author of A Practical Guide to Mooting, Civil Litigation (5 ed) and Canadian Conflict of Laws (5 ed) (forthcoming). Professor Walker has taught Conflict of Laws, Civil Procedure I and International Business Transactions in the LLB Programme and Advanced Commercial Litigation in the Part-time LLM Programme. In the 1999-2000 Academic year she is teaching Conflict of Laws and Civil Procedure I and she is the Faculty Advisor to the Mooting Programme. She is also the Programme Director for the Part-time LLM in Civil Litigation and Dispute Resolution.
