Kyle D. Killian, Ph.D., RMFT is Associate Professor and Research Faculty at the
Centre for Refugee Studies, York University. A licensed couple and family
therapist, Dr. Killian has 35 publications on topics such as
intercultural/interracial couples, immigrant and refugee families, emotional
intelligence, professional self-care, and trauma.
His co-edited volume Intercultural Couples: Exploring Diversity in Intimate Relationships is available from Routledge, and another book is in production at Columbia University Press, Crossing Borders: Interracial Couples, Intimacy &
Therapy. A member of the editorial boards of Journal of Marital and Family
Therapy, Journal of Feminist Family Therapy, Journal of Systemic Therapies and
The Qualitative Report, Dr. Killian enjoys teaching couples therapy, research
methods, and stats, developing and validating assessment measures (e.g.,
traumatic stress, vicarious resilience), and writing film analyses.
Dr. Killian is a member of an interdisciplinary team conducting research on
processes of violence and traumatic stress and delivering clinical
interventions in low income neighbourhoods in the greater Toronto area.
