Benvenuti!

Italian Studies at York offers an exciting learning experience in the areas of Italian language, literature, linguistics and culture, both on campus and abroad. Students may pursue various degree types, Italian language Certificates of Proficiency or add individual Italian Studies courses into other degree programs as electives.

The curriculum includes 3.0 and 6.0 credit courses in Italian language (beginner, intermediate, advanced); Italian literature (general introduction, specific periods, genres and authors); Italian linguistics (introductory notions; history of the Italian language; dialectology; special topics); Italian culture (introductory aspects; modern culture; media; cinema; opera) and Italian-Canadian studies. We also offer 9.0 credit foundations courses on Italian culture, Italian cinema and Italians in North America. Courses are offered in Italian and English.

Students may integrate a study abroad component either through the Summer Program in Italy (in Bologna, Florence and Rome) or the International Bachelor of Arts (iBA). This major gives students the opportunity of spending one or two semesters at a York partner university in Italy. Financial assistance is available for such opportunities.

For more information, please contact our Program Coordinator, Dr. Roberta Iannacito-Provenzano at 416-736-2100 x 20724.

Italian Studies enriches your life. We look forward to meeting you in our courses.
