1) Accounts

You will need a Passport York account to fully participate as a trusted member of the York University community. To set up your Passport York account, please speak with your department administrator and visit: www.yorku.ca/computing/facultystaff/accounts/passportyork.html

Your Passport York account will give you access to many services including: 

N.B. Yorku E-mail Account (official York University e-mail account) is not included

2) Computers: Hardware & Software

Computer Renewal Program (CRP)
The Computer Renewal Program (CRP) began at York University in 2001-02 and was designed to ensure faculty members had access to a computer based on a 3-year cycle. To review the Computer Renewal Program Guidelines & Procedures, please visit the University Information Technology (UIT) website.

Procurement

Additional University licensed software is available through UIT via an on-line order system or by emailing esohelp@yorku.ca with an appropriate budget number.

Course Websites
We are committed to providing standardized course outlines & websites each term for every course section.

eTLR - This e-Teaching and Learning Resources site provides course instructors with the information necessary to populate and maintain course websites. It also provides a training schedule and links to course websites. Before the start of each term, you may use the eTLR site as the access entry point to your course websites.

Obtaining generic course e-mail id: In order to keep course-related e-mails separate from personal e-mail, one may apply for a generic course e-mail id via esohelp@yorku.ca. An example of a course e-mail is akadms2500@yorku.ca

Research Websites
LA&PS is dedicated to faculty research and in keeping with its mandate, offers computing assistance for research website development and online research projects. Researchers requiring computing support or direction can submit a request via: esohelp@yorku.ca. For all other research information at LA&PS visit: www.yorku.ca/laps/research.

IT Support for Researchers
UIT, York University's central information technology organization, offers a number of services to help researchers with the setup and maintenance of computer hardware in a secure environment. For information visit:http://computing.yorku.ca/faculty-staff/teaching-research-computing/

5) Training & Development

General Software Training
For faculty assistance with software used in teaching and research, please write to faculty@yorku.ca or visit the Faculty Support Centre (www.fsc.yorku.ca). Examples of software taught by the FSC are Breeze, Word, Contribute, Dreamweaver, FrontPage, Composer, Moodle and Power Point. Other software demonstrated by the FSC include Blog, YQuiz and YCalendar.

Notes/Desktop
In-house, basic training is provided by the eSO. However, York's Human Resources and Employee Relations Department offers Training and Development in Lotus Notes.

6) Getting Help

All of the above requests, unless specified otherwise should be initiated through our Helpdesk Support (esohelp@yorku.ca), our single point of contact for both faculty and staff. A ticket system is in place through the RT (Request Tracker), public portal that will distribute and delegate all requests in a timely fashion.
