Created in 2008, the York Centre for Public Policy and Public Law encourages research on the role and impact of law in the formation and expression of public policy. More specifically, the Centre focuses on constitutional, institutional and legal aspects of the public policy, as well as the international and transnational dimensions of law and public policy. While CPPPL is housed between LA&PS and Osgoode Hall Law School, affiliated faculty are based in departments as diverse as political science, sociology, economics, and psychology as well as interdisciplinary programs such as Labour Studies, Law & Society, and Communication Studies.

The Centre for Research on Work and Society (CRWS) is a university-union-community research centre that deals with issues such as labour market regulation and the breakdown of secure employment, industrial relations and the labour process, women and economic restructuring, trade union response in international comparison, and the delivery of training.

The aim of the Tri-Faculty Institute is to be a focal point for the foremost research in Science and Technology Studies (STS) both at York and internationally. The membership of the Institute is drawn from across the university, but the majority of those affiliated originate from its three founding Faculties: the Faculties of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies, Science and Engineering, and Health.
The mandate of the Institute at York will centre on applying the leading methods and theories of the social sciences and humanities to the study of techno-scientific knowledge and practice, both past and present.
