SSHRC Small Grants Program (ORS) - Oct. 31, Mar. 31

Funding for research projects, eligible expenses include personnel, research travel, subsistence costs. Eligible but given lower priority: translation for publication; subventions, travel for research collaboration. Amount: Up to $4,000. Eligibility: Junior faculty given preference. An individual is eligible to receive one research grant every 2 calendar years. More information

Minor Research Grant (LA&PS) - November 15, April 15

The adjudicated vehicle through which LA&PS dispenses the YUFA Faculty/Library Research Grant Funding and the YUFA Junior Faculty/Librarian Fund. Funding for research projects, eligible expenses include personnel, research travel, subsistence costs. Amount: Up to $4,000. Eligibility: An individual is eligible to receive one research grant every 2 fiscal years. More information

Seed Grant for International Collaborations (LA&PS) - January 7, June 1

This opportunity provides seed funding for LA&PS full-time YUFA faculty members who are in the preliminary stages or new development of a collaborative research project or partnership initiative that is international in its focus. Partners/collaborators involved in the project must reside in a minimum of one country other than Canada and the United States.

Oct 1st deadline is only for research grants; Mar 1st deadline(research grants and release time).

To encourage individual research and study by defraying research costs. Value: Research grants - up to $8,000. Release time course directorship grants - salary equivalent to one full-course directorship. Duration: One year. More Information

Funds for a year-long seminar for Toronto-area scholars to discuss a specialized theme. Value: $7,500. More informaton

York Incentive Grants (VPRI) - Mar. 1, Aug. 1

Support for grant proposal preparation particularly (but not exclusively) for collaborative teams and only for grants submitted to non-traditional sources (non-Tri-Council.) Value: Approx. $5,000 More information

2. Conference Travel Support

SSHRC Grant in Aid of Travel(ORS) - Nov. 1, Feb 1, May 1, Aug 1

Funding to full-time faculty members for national and international travel for a conference at which the applicant is giving a paper, or making a substantial presentation. An individual is eligible to apply for one travel award per calendar year. Value: Up to the cost of return minimum airfare. More information

York Ad Hoc Conference Travel Grants (ORS) - Sept. 15, Dec. 15, Mar. 15, June 15

The Ad hoc Committee is a last resort source for funding travel to conferences. To provide full-time faculty members and librarians with travel grants to conferences at which a substantial presentation is being made. An individual is eligible to receive one grant per fiscal year (May 1-Apr 30).Value: Up to the cost of return minimum airfare. More information

International Conference Travel Fund (LA&PS) -- December 1, March 1, August 1

Full-time YUFA faculty members in LA&PS are invited to apply for funding to disseminate their work at a conference outside of Canada/United States. LA&PS full-time faculty members who are cross-appointed with other faculties are eligible to apply. In the case of CLAs and SRCs, travel must also occur within the term of the appointment.

3. Research Assistance Support - Funding to Hire Students

International Student Employment Program

For eligible international undergraduate students. The types of jobs offered through the program vary, as well as the required number of hours of work and the rate of pay. More information

Matching Funds Program(FGS)

The Faculty of Graduate Studies will on occasion match funds with a faculty member or unit to support employment of a graduate student. Students under this programme have been used to assist with conference and project planning, to provide research support, and to assist in computer labs and resource centres. Paid opportunities for York undergraduate students to participate in research projects. More information

Work/Study Program

Provides on-campus part-time job opportunities for eligible full-time York University students. These jobs are primarily available during the September to April academic session. More information

4. Teaching Supports, Course Releases & Fellowships

Release Time Teaching Fellowships (YUFA) - Nov 15

Fellowships are intended to provide recipients with the opportunity to develop innovative teaching and learning projects or to enhance their own teaching skills. Eligibility: Full-time faculty in tenure-stream appointments. More information

Teaching-Learning Development Fund (YUFA) - Nov 15

Funds are available to support projects which have the potential to make significant curricular or methodological contributions to teaching and learning at York, or which enable faculty to enhance their own teaching skills. Eligibility: All members of the YUFA bargaining unit. More information

5. Other Funding Supports and Initiatives

LA&PS Funding for Research Events and Outreach Activities - rolling deadline

LA&PS has a small fund to support research events and outreach activities undertaken by York community members that are to be held on one of York's campuses. To submit a request for funding, please complete an application form and submit it electronically or via fax to Janet Friskney (friskney@yorku.ca). In general, such requests will receive a response within 14 business days.

LA&PS Publishing Subvention Program - rolling deadline

Full-time YUFA faculty members in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies are invited to apply to this program if the scholarly book publisher with which they are publishing a work requires a subvention in order to offset the costs of production. The maximum funding that can be requested through this program is $1000.

Knowledge Mobilization Unit Initiatives (VPRI)

A collaboratioon between York University and University of Victoria, the KM unit facilitates partnerships and, in past years, has had some funding programs. More information

Leave Fellowship (Sabbatical) (YUFA) - Jan. 15

A Leave Fellowship Fund (Article 19.30 of the YUFA Collective Agreement) of $250,000 is available to provide peer-adjudicated additional grants of up to 10% of academic base salary to sabbaticants. The grants shall be subject to the conditions set out in Article 20.17 (b) of the YUFA Collective Agreement. Applicants may apply for amounts of up to 10% of their academic base salary.
