Committees and Responsibilities
SCOLAPS councilors have the opportunity to actively participate in various Standing Committees within the Faculty Council of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies. A brief description of each is provided below. For more information on each of the committees, please visit the Office of the Faculty Council.
- Executive Committee

The Executive Committee is responsible for directing the flow of Council business, and maintaining oversight of the work of Council committees.

- Academic Policy and Planning Committee

The Academic Policy and Planning Committee examines, formulates, and reviews long-term and short-term academic planning as well as comprehensive policies for the Faculty, including degree and non-degree credit studies.

- Committee on Curriculum, Curricular Policy and Standards

The Committee on Curriculum, Curricular Policy and Standards is responsible for reviewing and recommending to the Council approval of new academic initiatives including new certificates, new degrees, new programs of study, major changes to existing program requirements and other matters related to curriculum, curricular policy and standards.

- Tenure and Promotions Committee

The Tenure and Promotions Committee is responsible for making recommendations on Faculty and University policy concerning tenure and promotion, and reviewing and reporting to the Council on tenure and promotion activities at least three times per year.

- Committee on Research Policy and Planning

The Committee on Research Policy and Planning is responsible for actively seeking ways to enhance the scholarly climate of the Faculty by creating and reviewing methods of resource management and distribution in Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies.

The Committee on Teaching and Learning is responsible for guiding the ongoing development of the educational mission of the Faculty, and promoting ongoing assessment and enhancement of teaching and learning.

Sub-committee on student experience
The sub-committee on student experience is responsible for monitoring student experience in the Faculty, design ways to enhance academic support for students, and oversee Faculty and School/Department-based Awards, Scholarship, Bursaries, and Prizes.

- Committee on Student Appeals and Academic Integrity

The Committee on Student Appeals and Academic Integrity is responsible for reviewing on an annual basis policies and procedures on Academic Honesty and grading re-appraisals at the School/Departmental and Faculty level.

- Committee on Student Academic Petitions

The Committee on Student Academic Petitions primarily receives and acts on student academic petitions, including petitions against the application of Faculty, Departmental and School rules and regulations. The committee meets in panels for consideration of cases for the adjudication of petitions and appeals against previous committee decisions.
