Kenneth McBey is a professor of Human Resources and Organizational Behaviour at York University. His research and teaching draw on his earlier career as an infantry officer in the Canadian army, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and commanding officer of the 48th Highlanders of Canada. Throughout his military career, he held a wide variety of command and staff appointments, including those in human resources related areas such as recruiting, operations and training, and personnel officer (adjutant).

This real-life testing of HR theories has proved to be of invaluable assistance to his work in the academic realm. Professor McBey earned an Honours B.A. in political economy and a B.Ed. from the University of Toronto, and an MBA. and PhD. from the Schulich School of Business at York University.

Dr. McBey has served as coordinator of York University's Human Resources Management program, and he teaches a wide variety of courses including Human Resources Planning, Leadership and Management Skills, Recruitment, Selection and Performance Appraisal, Staffing Organizations, Training and Development, Organizational Behaviour, and Organizational Theory.

He has been a visiting professor at the Aberdeen Business School and the graduate programs in Human Resources and in Management at the University of Aberdeen, and Robert Gordon University, Scotland, the Australian National University, and the University of Otago, New Zealand.

Professor McBey is active in a wide variety of community and voluntary associations, and he serves on the boards of several not-for-profit organizations. He was recently awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal by the Government of Canada for making a "significant contribution to his fellow citizens, community and to Canada." Among Professor McBey's other honours and awards are the J. Reginald Adams Gold Medal from the University of Toronto, the Canada 125th Anniversary Medal for outstanding service to Canada, the Canadian Forces Decoration (C.D.), and appointment to the Order of St. John by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
