The ESL Open Learning Centre (ESL-OLC) offers language learning opportunities and support to English as a Second Language (ESL) students. The Centre is open twelve months a year to all York students registered in degree programs, and is free of charge. Graduate and undergraduate students are welcome. Students may request help in any aspect of English: listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

FOR FOUNDATIONS STUDENTS

1. Weekly workshops on topics related to the language needs of ESL students: Conversing in English, Understanding Lectures and Note Taking, the Internet for Language Learning, Reading Academic Texts, Correcting Common Grammar Errors, Presenting in Front of a Group, Research Skills for Essays, and Organizing and Writing Essays.

2. Individual tutoring or tutoring in groups (up to 5): by appointment.

To sign up for tutoring, small groups and workshop sessions, or to use OLC facilities, students must first register either by visiting the Centre or on the website at www.yorku.ca/eslolc (click the First Time Sign Up link on the left).

Once students are registered, they can use the online calendar or visit the Centre to book appointments in tutorials, small groups and workshops. A four week calendar of tutorial times and workshops is available on line or at the Centre.

The weekly schedule for 2005-06 is posted at www.yorku.ca/eslolc.  Tutorials and Workshops will operate beyond these hours/days according to the schedule on the sign-up calendar.
