The post-degree program is offered to students who have completed an undergraduate degree. The program consists of 54 credits, or nine full courses in Social Work. If you are a student who currently holds a three year or honours undergraduate degree, you are eligible to apply.
Successful practice experience is an essential requirement in the BSW program. The Social Work Practicum, (700 hours: AP/SOWK 4000 6.0 & AP/SOWK 4001 6.0) is composed of tutorials and field work components in approved social work settings arranged by the Field Education Coordinator in the School.
Admission to the School of Social Work is based not only on academic ability but also on professional potential. Each candidate is required to submit a supplementary admission data form for admission to the School of Social Work which would include the following criteria: academic achievement; work, volunteer, and community experience; personal statement; problem statement; academic record; and references. Once admitted, students normally have a maximum of five years to complete the post BSW degree. Application to the program is available in October from the Admissions Office, Student Services Centre, 3rd floor, Tel. 736-5000 or on line at www.yorku.ca/admissions.
The application deadline for the Supplementary Admission Information Form and accompanying documentation is March lst. The York University application deadline is February 1st.
