Colleges

Your college is your community within York University. College communities are comprised of students, professors, college Fellows and administrative support staff. Your college affiliation is based on your program of study or your residence.

The college system is intended to support involvement that enhances your university life. Your college’s day-to-day activities are run by both professors and students. Each college is administered by a Master and academic advisor ((College Life Coordinators in Founders, McLaughlin, New and Vanier Colleges). Student leaders, as part of the College Council, are elected by their peers and plan a full range of social, cultural and athletic programs.

York has eight colleges: New, Norman Bethune, Calumet, Founders, McLaughlin, Stong, Vanier and Winters. Each of the eight colleges have a distinctive theme and each is affiliated with specific academic programs. The college is responsible for providing services to the students and faculty in these programs. That means you get access to services, events and supports geared toward your interests.
