LA&PS Student Experience Fund

The LA&PS Student Experience Fund was established by the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies and is overseen by the Centre for Student Success. Students or Clubs may request up to $500 for club activities and events that promote leadership, academic and professional development.

Who Is Eligible to Receive a LA&PS Student Experience Fund grant:

Types of Grants:

Grants of up to a maximum of $500 can be awarded in the following two categories:

Sponsoring an Event/Initiative:

LA&PS Student Experience Fund may fund events that promote leadership, academic and professional development.

LA&PS Student Experience Fund will not support initiatives or events with a political or religious theme, nor events where alcohol will be served. Only one funding request per semester will be granted and no retroactive funds will be allocated to the same event.

Limitations to the Sponsorship of an Event/Initiative:

Approval of a LA&PS Student Experience Fund grant represents financial support only and is not evidence of the involvement or endorsement of the activity/event by York University or the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies.

Types of Expenses the LA&PS Student Experience Fund will support:

The LA&PS Student Experience Fund may support the following expenses for hosting an event/initiative.

  1. Hosting an event/initiative
    • Equipment rental
    • Event catering
    • Gifts for Speakers
    • Parking passes
    • Printing
    • Supplies (under $25)
    • Venue rental
  2. Attending an Event
    • Accommodation
    • Registration fees
    • Travel expenses
  3. Other Initiatives
    • Printing
    • Supplies (under $25)

Attending an Event/Initiative

LA&PS Student Experience Fund may fund individuals who wish to attend an event or activity that can be seen as directly benefiting the student in promoting leadership, career development, professional advancement or personal/academic knowledge.

Individuals who receive a LA&PS Student Experience Fund grant are expected to 'give back' to the LA&PS community in a tangible way, details of which will be worked out with the Student Experience Fund administrator prior to the release of funding.

Eligible initiatives under this category could include the registration fee or travel expenses to attend an academic or professional conference or related event. LA&PS Student Experience Fund offers up to $250 per individual per semester.

Please note that:

For Clubs

  1. LA&PS Student Experience Fund monies are not paid directly to the applicants but to approved businesses/services/organizations in the categories listed above.
  2. To be reimbursed for all other expenses approved by the LA&PS Student Experience Fund grant, you will be required to provide original receipts or invoices within ten (10) days following the completion/attendance of the event. Credit card stubs are not sufficient.

For Students:

  1. Should you be approved for LA&PS Student Experience Fund, the monies will be transferred to your personal student account.
  2. To receive funding, you will be required to provide original receipts or invoices within ten days following the completion/attendance of the event. Credit card stubs are not sufficient.

How to Apply:

  1. You must apply at least one (1) month prior to the event.
  2. If you are hosting an event, complete the Sponsoring an Event/Initiative Application Form.
  3. If you will be attending an event, complete the Attending an Event/Initiative Application Form.

Applicants must fill out one of the forms below and provide the information requested by the following deadlines:

Fall - October 15
Winter - February 15
Summer - June 15

Notification:

  1. The application will be reviewed by the Fund administrator. If any additional information is required, the club or student will be contacted.
  2. The Fund Administrator sends the recommendations to the Associate Dean of Students for approval. In an exceptional situation, and/or in the absence of the Associate Dean, the Executive Director of the Centre for Student Success will make a decision on an application.

Decisions are communicated to the applicants within four weeks of the deadlines as indicated on the form.

Once the funding has been approved, the appropriate Funding Agreement will be completed.

In order to receive funding students and clubs should be prepared to provide:

  1. All documentation about the event attended and quotes if requested;
  2. All original receipts. Please Note: guest speakers are required to be paid through Payroll.
