LA&PS Petition 101

Ever wondered about the petitions process, but not sure where to ask?
Concerned about handing in the right documents?
Thinking about petitioning but don't know where to start?
Worried about a denied petition and what that means for you?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then join us for the Petitions 101. This is your chance to get first hand knowledge of the petition process in Liberal Arts & Professional Studies!

The session will help you:

  • Understand what an academic petitions is and when to file one
  • Navigate the petitions process
  • Decode and follow the Petitions Checklist
  • Move forward after a petition is denied or there are other concerns
  • Learn strategies for future academic success

Petition advisors will also be on hand to answer all your questions and to provide feedback on the process.

Dealing with Group Work

Group Work Part 1: Getting Started

Do you dread group work?
Wondering if group work can be a success?
Concerned about working in a group?
Not sure how to select people for your group?

Then join us for this great workshop, facilitated by Prof. Marie-Helene Budworth!

This workshop will provide you with some practical steps and information designed to give you the knowledge and understanding on starting the group work process. Become more comfortable with group-work; understand the benefits of group-work and how to avoid common group-work problems. Come away with strategies for building a successful group.

Group Work Part 2: Moving Forward

Did you have lack of communication amongst group members?
Need guidance for dealing with group members who are not pulling their weight?

Whether your group is doing well or just needs to get back on track, this workshop will equip you with useful tools to improve your group-work experience.

How to Succeed

Avoiding Plagiarism and Understanding Academic Honesty

Networking 101

Need access to knowledge and experience in your field?
Ever wondered how to get references for a scholarship?
Want support for a project?

It's not about who you know, but who knows you! Networking provides the most productive, most proficient and most enduring tactic to build relationships. Whether it is getting references for scholarship and grant applications, getting a job, or organizing an event - networking is an essential skill you will always need.

Join the Centre for Student Success and the Career Centre in a practical and informative workshop to develop your networking skills. Network with recent graduates, who will give great tips on success after university. Various student clubs and organizations will also be present to tell of the opportunities available through them.

Work Options for International Students

Learn more about the following work options for International Students offered through York International and Citizenship and Immigration Canada:

  1. Off-Campus Work Permit Program (OCWP): An open work permit that is available to full-time, international students.
  2. Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWP): An open work permit that is available to iInternational students who have successfully completed their program of study.
  3. International Student Employment Program (ISEP): A work/study equivalent program that is only open to international, undergraduate students at York University.

The purpose of this session is to provide students with a variety of perspectives on careers in Economics to assist them in making informed educational and experiential decisions now in preparation for the future.
