Karen Petrone, received her Ph.D. at the University of Michigan and is an Assistant Professor of History at the University of Kentucky. Her book, Life Has Become More Joyous, Comrades: Celebrations in the Time of Stalin will be published by Indiana University Press in Fall 2000. She is currently working on a new project tentatively entitled "Masculinity, Race, and Empire: Russian and Soviet Military Heroes and Patriotic Cultures, 1900-1950".
