Additional particles with new interactions are expected to exist beyond the Standard Model. A well-known proposal is called technicolor. Lattice simulations allow these new theories to be explored.
The graphs on the left relate to SU(2) technicolor at strong gauge coupling. Each color of curve corresponds to a different number of techniquarks. All curves representing more than four particles show an abrupt change in the technihadron mass and the techniquark mass as a parameter, 1/K, is varied.
This abrupt change signals a phase transition about which some facts have been learned, but a thorough understanding of this transition will require further study.
