Temperature and Heat lecture notes
We covered on Wednesday pages TH1-TH7, on Friday TH7-TH12.
Problems that consolidate your understanding: problems for sections 18.4-18.6 (temperature scale, thermal expansion); 18.8: we covered the absorption of heat, read on your own on latent heat (I will make some remarks on Monday on heat of vaporization and heat of fusion); then you can do all the problems associated with 18.8.
We covered 18.9 - 18.11, not (yet) 18.12. Then we skip 19 and look into heat engines in 20.2-20.6. For students who want to know more about entropy and how we understand it there are optional additional notes posted below.
On Monday we will pick up at TH13, do HE1-4, and try to get into Entropy in pages E1 following. Then Prof. Jerzak will continue on Wednesday with the Kinetic theory of gases.

want to know how a Stirling engine works (a realization of the thermodynamic cycle heat engine)? HowStuffWorks.
want to know more about heat engines? A company in Sweden builds submarines that are powered by Stirling engines. A small company in the US which builds toy engines and demo equipment is Stirling and a chapter excerpt from a book on these engines by Brent H. Van Arsdell is here: Arsdell.pdf.
