MAC Alumni take on Students in the 1st Ever Orange Bowl
On April 15th, 2009, several MAC Alumni took on members of the MAC Torch Hockey Team for college hockey supremacy (and bragging rights) in the battle for the Orange Bowl!
The Orange Bowl is a new event/trophy the McLaughlin Sport & Recreation Council had put together to encourage a friendly but competitive hockey game between students and alumni. The first ever game was held in March 2008 as part of the College's 40th Anniversary, where a quickly organized and out of shape alumni squad were outskated in a 7-1 decision for the students. The 2009 alumni team sported a slightly younger (average age in the 40's except for two twenty somethings) and better prepared squad to take on the young and exuberant student team.
Coached by Ross McMillan, led on the score sheet by Marcanthony Franco with 2 goals and with the magical Joe Plutino in net, the Alumni managed to hold the pressing student Torch team off for a 3-2 victory. Other members of the McLaughlin Alumni Hockey Team included Anthony Antonacci, Boris Belcher, Brian Poser, Derek Macdonald, Jeff Horton, John Dimopoulos, Roger Quesnel, Sean Squires, and Tony D'Agostino. Scott Lannan helped as Assistant Coach.
The exciting game with action to the closing buzzer was followed by a great party in the Thirsty Penguin, where players mingled with students, family and friends. A great time was had by all.
While the Alumni hold bragging rights for now, it's expected the students will want to capture the Orange Bowl in 2010. Stay tuned for the announcement of the game. (NOTE: Alumni interested in playing for the 2010 team may contact Sean Squires (email@example.com) or one of the other current players.)
Special thanks to Eden Johnson and the Sport & Rec representatives for their help in putting the event together.

- A special note to all current alumni:
It was good to see some of you taking part in McLaughlin's Homecoming BBQ (Sept.20/08) this past weekend. We are inviting you to participate in another special event and to reconnect with your Alma Mater: McLaughlin College at York University.
While every McLaughlin Alum is welcome to attend, we do not have accurate contact information for everyone, so please pass this invitation along to your friends from College days or update your information through this website. You are also invited because you participated in the life of McLaughlin College as a student, and we need your help now as an Alum.
During the past few years, we have revived the tradition of celebrating the achievements of our Graduates the night before graduation. Some of you early graduates (1969-79) will remember that the first Master, Dean George Tatham, had a dinner for us, played the piano, and taught us how to sing Gaudeamus Igitur. We then sang this traditional graduation song the next day as we proceeded from the college to the graduation ceremony. On October 17, 2008 we'll once again sing Gaudeamus Igitur with the assistance of the McLaughlin Choir, which you are welcome to join for this event.
Please bring any memorabilia, photographs, Mac Team Jerseys, orientation T-shirts or buttons, and especially your stories to share with both alumni and new graduates.
Come and participate in the continued rejuvenation of the McLaughlin Chapter of the York University Alumni Association. We look forward to seeing you on October 17, 2008. Thank you for your support of McLaughlin College at York University.
