Student Orientation consists of two parts: Academic Orientation (mandatory) and Social Orientation (optional, but highly recommended).
Academic Orientation is a MUST for new students. You are
introduced, most importantly, to your academic advisor and your
student peer advisors - your key to academic success at York
University.
Students who do well at university, in life, and in their careers
get involved. There are hundreds of ways of getting involved through
your College and at York in general. We make the introductions at
Academic Orientation.
At
Academic Orientation, you meet York's leaders - the President, the
Dean, the Master, departmental Chairs, and Program Directors. We
introduce you to the terrific resources here that can help you
financially, emotionally, and academically. Here is the schedule for the mini-session on September 8th:
To register for the mini-session of Academic Orientation (once you've created your Passport York account), click on the following link:
Location: Founders Assembly Hall (Room 152 - Building #50 on York Campus Map)
Cost: All sessions are free and lunch is provided. However, you will be responsible for parking.
If you have any questions regarding Academic Orientation or have dietary/mobility needs, please contact us at mclaugh@yorku.ca.
Social Orientation, also known as Frosh Week, is hosted by the McLaughlin College Students' Council. Starting September 5, you will have the opportunity to experience an action-packed week of social events, such as nightly dance parties, the annual Waterfight Spectacular and many more, all with the purchase of a frosh kit! More information will be forthcoming in the summer issue of MacMedia, the McLaughlin College newspaper. If you do not receive a copy by mail, be sure to come to the RED Zone to pick one up - they will be available towards the end of July. See you there!
If you have any questions regarding Social Orientation please contact the McLaughlin College Students' Council at macfrosh@yorku.ca.
Parents Orientation will take place on Saturday, September 5th from 1 to 3 pm. To register, click here.
Location: McLaughlin Senior Common Room (Room 140 - Building #51 on York Campus Map)
Cost: The session is free and a light lunch will be provided before the session begins. However, you will be responsible for parking.
On this day, York will be hosting a university-wide Parents Orientation as well. We would recommend that you attend the York morning session if you plan to attend the McLaughlin College Parents Orientation in the afternoon.
Residence Move-In Day is Saturday, September 5th for new students.
