WRITING THE SELF OUT OF SILENCE

TORONTO, June 6, 1996: York University's Centre for Feminist Research is hosting Writing the Self Out of Silence, a celebration of Canadian women writers, Saturday, June 15, 1996, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Vari Hall A.

The day will involve opening remarks by M. Nourbese Philip and two smaller, interactive readings by the featured writers, who will read from their work and answer questions in an informal setting.

The writers giving readings include: Sharon Butala; Nancy Cooper; Cornelia Hoogland; Adeena Karasick; Penn Kemp; Joy Kogawa; Sandra Laronde; Daphne Marlatt; Gianna Patriarca; M. Nourbese Philip; Gail Scott; and Rhea Tregebov.

This event is sponsored by The Canada Council, The Canadian Playwright's Union and The Canadian Writer's Union. The cost, including lunch, is $30 and $15 for students and the unwaged. York University is located at 4700 Keele St. (Keele St. and Steeles Ave.) in North York.
