YORK UNIVERSITY V.P. CHOSEN TO HEAD SHERIDAN COLLEGE

TORONTO, October 8, 1996 -- The York University community responded with a sense of pride and loss to today's announcement that Mr. Sheldon Levy, Vice-President of Institutional Affairs, is leaving York early next year to become President of Sheridan College.

"We are, of course, sorry to see Sheldon go. But this news is a testament to his talent, and an indication that Sheridan College knows where to look for excellence," said York University President Dr. Susan Mann.

Dr. Mann said Mr. Levy has given more than 25 years of his life to York University. He first came to York as a student in the Faculty of Science, graduating with a Bachelor of Science before completing a Masters of Arts program in Mathematics. He joined the administration in 1972, and assumed the position of Vice-President, Institutional Affairs, in 1988.

Sheldon will assume his new position January 15, but he has characteristically assured us that he will ensure a smooth transition and continue to share his knowledge and expertise with us. Plans to replace Sheldon will be announced shortly.

"I know that everyone in the York community wishes Sheldon well, and looks forward to thanking him for his decades of dedication to York," said Mann.
