Petitions And Grievances

Students may petition for exemption from any regulation of the MKine Graduate Programme in Kinesiology and Health Science of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Letters of petition should be sent to the Programme Director's office. The Director shall forward the petition to the supervisor and any other faculty member involved. Should the petition be denied, the student may request that the matter be taken to the MKine Executive Committee. Students will be given the opportunity to present such petitions orally. If the rule which is being petitioned is a Faculty of Graduate Studies regulation, the approved petition is next sent to the Faculty of Graduate Studies for their consideration.

In the event that a student wishes to pursue a grievance, or appeal some aspect of the supervisory practice encountered within the Programme, then a four stage procedure is recommended:

a) The student should attempt to have the problem solved by informal mediation through the good offices of the Graduate Director or any other MKine graduate faculty member regarded as a disinterested party.

b) If informal mediation fails then the student should submit a written complaint to the Graduate Director or to the disinterested faculty member. This individual will again attempt to solve the problem.

c) If stage b) fails, then the written complaint will be submitted to the MKine Graduate Executive Committee for resolution. Any parties involved in this dispute have the right to explain their position at this meeting.

d) The student or the supervisor has the right to appeal to the Faculty of Graduate Studies if the decision of the MKine Graduate Executive Committee is regarded as unsatisfactory.
