Second Conference on Caribbean Culture
University of the West Indies

Mona, Campus, Jamaica


The 2nd conference on Caribbean Culture honours Kamau Brathwaite Griot, poet, Historian. This major international Conference brings together cultural workers for three days of deliberation and celebration centered on one of the most vital aspects of the regionīs heritage; the Word.

 The Conference Chairs, Professor Barry Chevannes & Mr. Joe Pereira welcome submissions on a broad spectrum of topics within the scope of ideas informing Caribbean Culture, in particular issues that converge around the word as a center-piece for Caribbean expression. 

The Conference is organised around concurrent panels emerging from the

Individual or joint presentations are invited. Papers should not exceed 5,000 words.
Selected Conference papers will be published in the
post-conference proceedings
and selected journals. In order to facilitate pre-conference logistics, hotel and airline
discounts, we ask that the following time lines be observed: 

Indication of interest ----------- February 28, 2001
Submission of Abstracts ----- May 31, 2001
Submission of Papers -------- October 31, 2001


Abstracts should be no more than 200 words, submitted by e-mail, fax or
mail (postdate 5/31/01)with full details of name, address (including
e-mail) and institutional affiliation. Confirmation of accepted abstracts
will be done by June 15, 2001.
