York University - Department of History
Dr. José C. Curto was appointed to a tenure-stream position as Assistant Professor in African History, effective July 1, 2003. Professor Curto was also appointed to the Graduate Programme in History, Faculty of Graduate Studies, for a 3 year term commencing July 1, 2003.

King's College - Department of History
Dr. Renée Soulodre-La France was appointed to a tenure-track position position as Assistant Professor in Latin American History, effective July 1, 2003.

Portland State University - Department of History
Omar Eno was appointed an adjunct position as Assistant Professor in the Department of History.

CIRMA (Guatemala) & CIHAC (Costa Rica)
Dr. Rina Cáceres Gómez will enter an administrative role as Presidenta de la Junta Directiva de Centro de Investigaciones Regionales de Mesoamérica (CIRMA), Guatemala, and also Directora del Centro de Investigaciones Historicas e America Central (CIHAC), Universidad de Costa Rica.

SSHRC
Dr. Femi Kolapo a former PhD student and post-doctoral fellow and currently Assistant Professor at University of Guelph, Ontario was awarded a SSHRC Research Grant. His research is titled "Patterns of West Africa's Integration into a New International Economic Order: The Lower Niger River Basin Experience, 1807-1884".

National Endowment for the Humanities - Vanderbilt University 2003
Professor Jane Landers and Dr. Mariza de Carvalho Soares were sucessful in their application to the NEH Council. The project is titled "Ecclesiastical Sources and Historical Research on the African Diaspora in Brazil and Cuba"
