Course description:
This course surveys the field of language contact, with
focus on the linguistic consequences of contact and relevant applied
issues. Topics covered in the course include: societal and individual
bilingualism; language maintenance and shift; language planning and
education; language death; code switching and borrowing; and pidgins and
creoles. Students develop skills
necessary for graduate-level research, including library research, proper
citation, critical reading, presentation and academic writing.

class in the MATAL lab to introduce you to the CLAN software, which you
need for the analysis assignment.
