Welcome to EN 1001C (Online)

My name is Peter Paolucci and I am the course director. The contents of this course will eventually appear in Moodle, but as of now (the eve of Sept 3) computing support has not yet been able to create our Moodle site. I'm hoping it will be done by this weekend.

We are considering Thursdays or nominal meeting day so you can expect that every Thursday, new content will appear. While we are waiting for our Moodle platform to be configured, I'm providing the content here for Week 1, so you can get started.

I've recorded an introductory video for you to view. Here is a link to the accompanying document. Watch this video and open and read the MS Word document. That document contains valuable information about the course AND it contains links to all of the video lectures for week 1, so it's time to get busy watching those and doing thd readings. (The video also itemizes the textbooks you need to purchase. Get hold of those right away and start reading.

Best wishes for every success.
Check your email for a welcome note from your tutorial leader.

Here is the list of prose passage options for test 1, which happens in Week 4 (Sept 26). There is also a direct link to the passages at https://www.yorku.ca/paolucci/1001/proseOptions.html

One Important Thing I Forgot To Mention

Your tutorial participation mark is 30%. You have to post 5 times in 10 weeks; that's 5 postings x 5 marks maximum for each posting = 25 marks. The remaining 5% is a subjective "fudge" grade that is your tutorial leaders subjective impression of how committed you were to this course--so it's important to post regularly and thoughtfully to Moodle and to enage in dicussions with your tutorial leader about your unserstanding of course content.
