ELBOW 98 Storm Photos

These are a few photos of developing thunderstorms in the vicinity of lake breeze fronts. I used two cameras: an old 28mm Konica and a disposable panoramic. I have digitally processed the images somewhat changing mainly the contrast and the brightness. All photos are copyright David Sills 1997 and may not be copied or used without my permission.

These may take a few minutes to load....

June 24 storm photo 1

The main cell in the June 24 1997 case, taken facing east. Part of the anvil

spreading out on the opposite side can be seen to the right.

June 25 storm photo 1

One of the strongest cells that developed in a line north of the shore of Lake Erie as a

cold front met the Lake Erie lake breeze on June 25 1997. Again, the flank

of the storm is shown with the photo taken facing north.

June 25 storm photo 2

Approaching the rain core of the storm cell shown in the previous picture. Outflow winds are apparent near

the surface on the left side of the picture. The photo was taken facing northeast.

July 18 storm photo 1

Growing towering cumulus clouds at the Lake Erie lake breeze front as a cold front

was approaching from the northwest on July 18 1997. This photo was taken facing south.

July 18 storm photo 2

Developing thunderstorms at the Lake Erie lake breeze front on July 18 1997.

The storms moved very quickly to the southeast and we were unable to

catch up with them. This photo was taken facing southeast.
