H-PEPSS: Health Professional Education in Patient Safety Survey

location: MainH-PEPSS

The Health Professional Education Patient Safety Survey (H-PEPSS) is a questionnaire designed by researchers at York University to assess patient safety competency in health professional education.

  • See the 2010 version of the H-PEPSS ( PDF).
  • In the Fall 2010 the H-PEPSS is being used as part of a study funded by the Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI) to examine the perspectives of close to 5000 new graduates in medicine, nursing and pharmacy of their own patient safety competency at entry to practice.
  • The survey is also being used (with minor modifications) with health professionals who are in the process of completing their training.
  • The current study (2010-2012) will examine "The Factors that Influence Patient Safety Competence among Health Professionals at Entry to Practice".
  • The researcher team is led by York University researchers (L. Ginsburg & D. Tregunno) and has partnered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO), the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) on this study.
  • Work on the development of the H-PEPSS was funded by a studentship grant from CPSI in 2008 (see the 2008 Pilot Study Report PDF)
