FIRST / 2MASS quasar candidates

Hi Bob--

Later today I'll be sending around emails about extreme BALs and other
interesting objects from Sloan, which you might want to look at with Keck.
But in the meantime here's what I have in the FIRST/2MASS quasar arena.
I will be on vacation from Sunday until Jan. 3rd, so if there's some
problem or some way I can streamline the files for higher efficiency
(e.g. one file with targets in priority order?), let me know ASAP.

The following are files of FIRST / 2MASS quasar candidates:

# of
targets filename
16 apm2mass.first_candsjune2728.gz (B<20, R<~19)
44 apm2mass.new2_OEmeas_kle14.5_jkge1.5_Rsort_new.gz (B,R<20)
25 apm2mass.new2_OEmeas_noids_ircolors_select.gz (B,R<20)
15 apm2mass.new2_noopt_ircolors_select_ksort.gz (opt=?)
37 apm2mass.new2_wapm_noidsplussortcritge0bjge3.75.gz (B<21,R<19.5)

A quick guide to the criteria used in the above files:

O-E>2, J-K>1.75, not obvious APM gal. first_candsjune2728
O&E detns, E star, J-K>=1.5, K<=14.5    new2_OEmeas_kle14.5_jkge1.5_Rsort_new
O&E detns, E star, J-K>2, J-H>1 new2_OEmeas_noids_ircolors_select
No APM, J-K>2, J-H>1 new2_noopt_ircolors_select_ksort
B-J>3.75, J-K/B-J diagram selected new2_wapm_noidsplussortcritge0bjge3.75

I bet the last file will be the most fruitful, but the first file
may be the safest, in terms of least galaxy contamination.
I haven't checked to see which objects are visible this time of year.
If you want to sort by R magnitude, it's column 15.
If you want to sort by O-E color, it's column 23.
Note that R & O-E aren't available for new2_noopt_ircolors_select_ksort.
You can ignore entries with a comment sign (#) in the first column.

Buena suerte with the observing,
Pat
