Food Rescue Action!

Food Rescue Action! is a new student-run initiative supported by the Human Rights, Participatory Growth, and Poverty Eradication Program (HRPGP) at York University. To get involved please contact us by email or join us on YuConnect!

Aim :
- To address the need for food among Toronto's impoverished
- Utilize discarded foods from agriculture
- Plan a system of distribution to/from food banks or soup kitchens
- Maintain a system which is sustainable and replicable
- To engage student volunteers in their community

Cause:
Lack of food and malnutrition among impoverished Toronto residents. Insufficient food resources for food banks. Excessive food waste in agriculture and retail.

[Evaluation of Pilot Food Rescue Trip]
An evaluation conducted by the staff of HRPGP after our pilot trip to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses both for improvement next year and to provide guidance to other students wishing to start similar initiatives. This evaluation was published in the first issue of Gathering.

[Executive Summary of October 2011 Food Rescue Trip]
A pilot food rescue trip was organized and took place on October 7, 2011. It engaged 25 university students who took a trip to Everdale Organic Farm in Guelph, Ontario. Below is a video featuring the highlights of the trip.
