Submissions

The Development Review publishes academic articles written by undergraduates which demonstrate strong research and writing quality, well-founded arguments, and which discuss relevant contemporary topics. Papers submitted may be course work or independent academic pieces from any field as long as it is within the scope of the journal. This journal is a publishing venue for undergraduates so submissions will not be accepted from graduates later than 1 full year after their graduation. Only one piece per author can be submitted per issue, work published elsewhere is not be eligible for submission.

To submit your essay for publication please make sure you follow our formatting requirements precisely. It is also advised that you have a peer look over your essay to proof-read before you submit your piece.

Format

The Development Review follows the APA citation style guide, and requires all submissions to be prepared in this format. You are also required to submit an article abstract of no more than 150 words and a short biographical summary including the name of your university, academic interests, current year of study, expected year of graduation, major or intended major, and e-mail address. Please send all papers by email as an attached .doc or .docx file and remove your name and any grade or course reference from the document. Mark in the email subject line "Journal Submission MM/YYYY" and include the following in your email:

  • Your name
  • Your article's title
  • Your abstract
  • Your bio
  • Article word count
  • Any acknowledgements you would like to make in reference to the article

Article length should be a minimum around 2,500 words to 5,000 words.

Ensure that you advise in your email if your article is under review with another publisher. Simultaneous submissions are acceptable, however we will not publish work that has already been published elsewhere. Also ensure you notify The Development Review immediately if your piece was accepted for publication with another journal. If your article goes into publication in two journals without proper knowledge and preparation you could find yourself breaking copywrite laws which would hold you accountable.

Please refer to the Tool Kit page for tools and online resources to help you prepare your paper according to the required format and writing quality.

Once you have checked that your submission adhers to these requirements and guides you may submit via email to journal.povertyyork@gmail.com
