I am casting my vote for

President: Jim Bob
Vice-President: Jessica Smith
Secretary: Mike Jones
Treasurer: Jane Doe

President:

Rashmi Kumar

Hey! My name is Rashmi Kumar and I'm running for President. I have over 5 yrs of experience working for non-profit associations, which has given me considerable knowledge regarding organization operations. My main focus as President will be to make the law school application process a lot less stressful! I want to arrange for workshops with the Career Centre and other organizations to learn how to complete the law school application and even choose between schools! If elected I will continue bi-weekly mock LSATS and ensure consistent room bookings to make the process run a lot smoother. And to increase participation, I will ensure that the mock LSATS do no conflict with 3rd/4th year Crim/Law&Society class schedules. Lastly, with the VP, I will gain more sponsors to provide more affordable prep courses to our members, while continuing to make PLSY an outgoing and social organization!

Natasha Beitman

I'm Natasha Beitman, and I've been Sponsorship Coordinator for Pre-law for a year. Since I came to York, I've become engaged in the vibrant community, as a part of Moot Society, Debate Team, Habitat for Humanity and Pre-Law. Because of these clubs, I've had the privilege to make connections with lawyers, judges and Osgoode professors, and I have realized that a Mentorship Program between Undergraduates interested in law, Osgoode students, professors, lawyers and judges would be an asset to pre-law members. Each member would have a connection to a law student and a lawyer with whom to talk to, meet up with, and use as a resource for work and advice in the future. A vote for me will mean a vote for a stronger Pre-Law, featuring the events I have helped run this year, such as Mock LSATs and Law Panels, and for a brand new Law Mentorship Program!

Chris Karopolous

Serving as Vice President this past year, as well as Promotions Coordinator the year before, has allowed me to gain invaluable insight into the inner workings of the Pre-Law Society and the necessary elements that go into its successful maintenance. Over the past two years, I have cultivated close relationships with Bay Street lawyers, top-ranking LSAT tutors, and current law students that I am determined to capitalize on through law firm visits, networking & mentoring events, law school application workshops, and LSAT tutoring sessions. I have also collaborated with passionate executives of several York, Ryerson, and U of T clubs, securing partnerships that will improve funding and offer an even greater array of unique event opportunities. Having received expert guidance necessary to achieve success in this journey to law school, the position of President will allow me assist proactive students in acquiring that selfsame goal of surpassing the competition.

Nathan Saprikin

Hello everyone! My name is Nathan and I am a strong proponent of discourse, meaning that I believe for us to get the optimal benefit from PLSY we must mutually engage in active discussions. I'm certain that I'm not the only one, but my participation in PLSY has left me with a head full of ideas and a mouth full of words, but no sets of ears to listen. So if you feel the same way, grant me this opportunity to represent you as my peers and I will ensure you get the chance to be heard! I hope to implement a ‘panel' for PLSY members where you will be able to take the floor, express yourselves and discover like-minded people! I will further continue to deliver the PLSY events you enjoy and use my resources in Osgoode Hall and other York student groups to provide a holistic Pre-Law experience!

Yonathan Kramer

In this position I plan to provide you, the members of Pre-Law more opportunities of acquiring the information necessary to guide you on your path to Law School. These additions consist of making more information available online for members. Knowing how tough the undergraduate schedule can be it is often difficult to find time in your schedule to attend events. Therefore online information will offer the convenience of still being able to access necessary information. I would also set up an online Q&A section where all members can post any questions Pre-Law related and have it answered by someone qualified to do so. Finally I would give members more choice and say over when mock LSAT's are administered. The goal is not to replace anything rather it is to add in order to accommodate more members.

Vice-President:

Rashmi Kumar

Hey! My name is Rashmi Kumar and I am running for VP. In addition to the platform outlined for my president candidacy, if elected I aim to work with the other execs to further the outreach of PLSY by engaging 1st and 2nd year students. I would like to see more tabling, more events, and more workshops (in partnership with other groups and the Career Centre) to promote our fantastic organization! I would also like to arrange a "Buddy Program" with Osgoode law students to provide mentorships between PLSY members and actually JD candidates! My experience working with multiple organizations over the years has given me the immense skills that I would LOVE to utilize within PLSY! I look forward to working with you all in September!!

Elgin Taing

Hey everyone! My name is Elgin Taing and I am a 2nd year BBA student specializing in accounting. I have attended several events hosted by the PLSY this year and without a doubt they have been extremely valuable in terms of allowing me to gain insights into the legal field. Having been a member of both the Pre-Law Society and the Schulich Business Law Association, I've felt that attendance to events held by each club were not as optimal as they could be. Thus, I would like to propose a partnership between the clubs so that members can have access to all the valuable events that will help you gain a better understanding of the legal field. For PLSY members, this means access to new opportunities like law firm visits to Fasken Martineau and Davies where you can have an intimate networking/ lunch session with articling students and firm personnel.

Final Words
As the president of the Pre-Law Society I would like to thank all those who made this year such a success. Throughout the year we hosted over 15 Mock LSATs, held two personal statement workshops, a Doís and Doníts for Law school by PREP101 workshop, a seminar by Dr. Astroff, had several universities both local and international speak about their schools, provided a tour for Osgoode Hall Law School, had 2 phenomenal Law Panels and celebrated both terms with pub nights.

Taking part in these activities does not guarantee admission to law school, however these experiences are life changing, inspiring as well as motivating. For those of you who will still be at YorkU next year and aspiring to attend law school, I urge you to take part in as many events and even run for the executive positions next year as this society is an amazing opportunity to gain insight and knowledge about law school. I would like to congratulate all members who will graduate this year and wish everyone good luck in their future plans. Besides, being part of this society also gives discounts to prep courses such as Harvard Ready and Prep 101! Good Luck everyone and thank you for an amazing year!

President

Bryan Ramos
Hello everyone my name is Bryan Ramos, Iím a third year Law and Society/History major and I am running for president of the Pre-Law Society. I have attended numerous Pre-Law events and have gained invaluable insight into the law school application process as undoubtedly many of you also have. What I shall bring to the table as president of the Pre-Law society is the continuation of offering guidance to those curious with the law school application process as well promoting camaraderie within the club. I will focus on holding informational sessions on the logistics of the application process throughout the year, attempt to re-establish bi-weekly mock LSATs, continue hosting law panels so our members can gain real world insight into the profession and lastly organize social events such as pub nights. Thank you for your time and I look forward toa great year.

Chris Karopoulos
My understanding of the inner workings of the Pre-Law Society gives me the immense confidence to assure all members of the future betterment of this organization as a result of being elected as President. My general membership in the Pre-Law Society in my first year as well as my executive position as Promotions Coordinator in my second year have cultivated traits in me necessary to make me an ideal asset for an even greater leadership role within the club. I have gained invaluable information and guidance necessary to achieve success in this journey to law school and I feel that it is my duty to reward Pre-Law Society members for their proactive curiosity by supporting them in acquiring the same goal. The position of President will allow me to do so. My insight into the goals and objectives of the club that I can use to improve club programs make me determined to successfully oversee additional Law Panels, Personal Statement Workshops, Mock LSATs, and above all, expand opportunities for members to get ahead of the competition!

Nathalie Filarski
Hey! My name is Nathalie Filarski and I am running for President. I was the secretary for the past year, and I greatly enjoyed the experience; and I want to continue to help Pre-Law and our members thrive by becoming President. My volunteer experience includes: being an executive in the Polish Studentsí Association for the past three years, helping feed homeless downtown, and interning for a lawyer last summer. All of these experiences have given me indispensible skills that I want to pass on to members as President. I am aware of and have experienced the potential challenges and difficulties that arise and always try to quickly rectify them. I am familiar with York policies and opportunities, and I would utilize all the available resources that are offered. I want to continue our amazing events including bi-weekly mock LSATs during the year and in the summer Ė and pubnights!

Vice President

Boris Livshits
Hello everyone, my name is Boris Livshits and I am a 1st year student majoring in political science. In elementary school I had established the dream of becoming a lawyer. Ever since, it has been a hobby of mine to research about all facets of law schoosl such as: statistics, entrance rates, requirements, how to improve your chances, and most of all the initiative one must have to get to their dream destination. During the pre-law society events that I had attended this past year, every lawyer and member I spoke to was shocked to know I am a first year student and already attempting to make huge strides towards my future. If elected as vice-president, I promise to make the same big strides to help everyone in achieving their goals and reaching their dream destination. I love nothing more than helping others, and if given the opportunity I will give 200% effort in preparing everyone in the best, most efficient, and most successful way possible.

Bryan Ramos
Hello everyone my name is Bryan Ramos, Iím a third year Law and Society/History major and I am running for Vice-President of the Pre-Law Society. If elected as Vice-President I will continue, and hopefully improve, the quality of guidance that the Pre-Law Society offers to its members on the law school application process. I will participate in assisting and organizing Pre-Law events to the best of my abilities and ensure the executive team is approachable, knowledgeable, efficient and responsible. With respect to specific ideas of what I can bring to the table I will seek to re-establish the bi-weekly LSATs that prepare our members for the real deal, continue hosting law panels and organize more social events such as pub nights. Thank you for your time and I look forward to another great year with the Pre-Law society.

Devika Singh
Hey everyone, my name is Devika Singh and I am running to be your Vice President for 2012-2013! My current role as the PLSY treasurer is an ideal stepping-stone into this role as it has given me an opportunity to interact with many of you, as well as learn more about PLSY as an organization. Based on the feedback our executive team has received, Iím looking to continue and initiate new events in the upcoming year. Once elected, I will focus my efforts towards achieving three primary goals alongside the President. Firstly, I will ensure that we have bi-weekly mock LSATs throughout the duration of the summer. Secondly, I will arrange for ĎPersonal Statementí workshops starting this summer. Thirdly, I will plan visits to law firms for our members to gain an understanding of the actual workplace. Looking forward to your VOTE and SUPPORT! Be sure to check out: http://www.yorku.ca/prelaw/exec.shtml

Miriam Kaplan
Being a mature student, I have previously supervised others in the workplace and am confident in my leadership ability. I take pride in my strong organizational and event management skills, which will aid me in assisting the President and working with other executives in an efficient and productive manner. I have a great passion for law (specifically Intellectual Property and Contract law) and believe the Pre-Law Society is crucial to providing the information necessary to gain admittance to law school. As a PLSY member over the past year, I was highly impressed with all events and the professionalism of the executive team. I would appreciate the opportunity to be more closely involved in maintaining the integrity of the club and will use my best efforts to ensure goals are moving forward. In the 2012-2013 academic year, opportunity expansion and member satisfaction will be my top priorities!

Nathalie Filarski
Hey! My name is Nathalie Filarski and I am running for Vice-President. With this position, I want to continue helping Pre-Law thrive by making sure that next year is just as great as this one was with lots of informative events and helpful tips made available to our members. I have experience by being secretary this year for Pre-Law, an executive at Polish Studentsí Association for the past three years, helped the homeless downtown, and interned for a lawyer last summer. As a previous VP, I am aware of the responsibilities they have, and have experienced the potential challenges and difficulties that arise and always try my best to quickly rectify them. I am familiar with York policies and opportunities, and I will utilize all the available resources that are offered. I want to continue our amazing events including bi-weekly mock LSATs during the year and summerĖ and pubnights!

Secretary

Amy Lee
My passion for governance, structures and interpersonal reconciliation is the motivation behind my campaign to serve PLSY as Secretary. As a co-founder and president of a student club at York, I have come to realize the indispensable role that a secretary plays in maintaining a clubís stability. In addition to developing an efficient and approachable communicative structure, a Secretary ensures smooth operations by filling any gaps, conflicts and issues that spontaneously arise. My previous work experience as an Executive Assistant to presidents, entrepreneurs and professors in corporate, non-profit and academic settings in the past 3 years has given me extensive experience and insight into communication, conflict resolution and general management. As a Secretary, I will bring the same quality of professional, thorough and approachable support to PLSY with its mission of offering great programs, events and tips to all of you in pursuit of your mission in law.

Egi Troka
My name is Egi Troka. I'm a first year Law and Society major. If elected as secretary, I will bring my passion for the legal field, along with my excellent communication, organizational and multi-tasking skills to serve the Pre-Law Society to the best of my abilities. My few years of experience as an office assistant at a design company have provided me with these skills, along with my involvement in York University clubs such as the Moot Society, working as a student teacher for the Law Initiative Program and volunteering for UNICEF at York. I would be gladly dedicated as a secretary for the Pre-Law Society in the coming year!

Jennifer Bazik
My name is Jennifer Bazik and I am currently a member of the Pre-Law Society. I have enjoyed many of the events held and would like to have a more active role within the club. I feel that my volunteer experience has prepared me for the position because it has helped me develop the diligence, the organizational skills and the communication needed to be a member of the executive team. I am currently a volunteer at Baycrest which is a community for the elderly and will be volunteering at a law firm this summer. My past volunteering experiences were with Youth Assisting Youth and various childrenís organizations. I am a very active member of my community and now would like the opportunity to become an active member within the York community. I feel like I could contribute a lot to the Pre-Law Society and would the like to chance to demonstrate my dedication. I will work with the executive team to ensure that events go well and that all members are satisfied.

Mirim Kaplan
I believe that communication is the key to success for any organization. The PLSY would not exist without the support of its members, which is why I plan to answer any and all questions in a thorough and concise manner. I have been a secretary many times in the workplace so am familiar with the role and duties. As the link between members and the other executives, I believe it is important to address member concerns in a prompt and timely fashion. Through social media and email correspondence, members can feel more involved on an ongoing basis, rather than simply attending events. My goal is to make the 2012-2013 year for PLSY more informative and member-friendly than ever!

Treasurer

Devika Singh
Hey everyone, my name is Devika Singh and I am running to be your Treasurer for 2012-2013! As a third year student, I am currently pursuing my BBA with a specialization in finance and strategic management. After one successful year as your PLSY Treasurer in 2011-2012, I am encouraged to run for the same position once again as I am confident that Iíll be able to contribute effectively. My role as the PLSY Treasurer has been tremendously rewarding as it has given me the opportunity to interact with many of you, as well as get to know more about PLSY as an organization. ELECTIONS 2011/2012

Post: PRESIDENT
Candidate name: Ana Navabi
Campaign paragraph:
The varying executive positions I have held at York in the past three years make me a great candidate for the position of presidency as I am familiar with the tasks and responsibilities for each position as well as the goals of the club. I am aware of the availabilities and benefits York offers for its clubs. My most recent experience as the promotions coordinator of the prelaw club has given me insight to the goals and objectives of that club that I can use to better run, maintain, develop and improve the club programs. As the president my first priority will be to run the Mock LSATs during the summer. Secondly, I will begin ďpersonal statementĒ building workshops. Thirdly I will introduce new opportunities for members to engage in the club. Iíll be living on campus this summer and next year which makes me accessible and available to host summer events and meetings to plan ways of improving the club. I have many new ideas and plans that will bring much success to the overall goals of the club!

Post: PRESIDENT
Candidate name: Sana Alibux

I am writing to submit my candidacy for the President position for the York University Pre-Law society. My interest in this position stems from my desire to participate in broadening our collective understanding of the legal world and to contribute to the growth of our organization. As the President of the Pre-Law society I hope to implement or assist with the following initiatives along with adopting our current mandate:
∑ Organize a trip to the Ontario Human Rights Commission office to get a better understanding of the day to day lives of those working with the commission
∑ Invite guest lecturers to discuss the legal profession
∑ Organize a range of social activities for members
∑ Collaborate with the York Debating Society and York Model United Nations group for debates on legal and social issues
∑ Coordinate mock LSAT review sessions.
In sum, I believe I can contribute to the further development of our organization.

Candidate name: Ryan Wardle
Campaign paragraph:
Hi everyone, Iím Ryan and I am running for President of the Pre Law Society. Over the past year, I have had the privilege of serving as the Sponsorship Coordinator with an experienced executive team, and have been an active member in the club for 2 years. If elected, I will bring a high degree of professionalism, integrity and leadership to this prestigious organization. My credentials include vast experience in attracting corporate sponsorship, overseeing executive budgets, and developing and supervising club events. As an elected executive, I plan to continue to place a strong emphasis on LSAT preparation, specifically offering support for students writing during the June and October sessions. Furthermore, I will seek collaboration with several clubs around the York community, with an intention of expanding opportunities for our members. It would be both an honour and pleasure to work with you all in the upcoming year!

Post: VICE PRESIDENT
Candidate name: Ana Navabi
Campaign paragraph:
At times, the Vice president of the club has greater responsibilities than the president. The vice president must ensure that everything in the club is going accordingly to the ways decided by the executives and the members and should anything be lacking, the vice president must identify the issue or problem and formulate solutions. As I have been the vice president of another club at York I am aware and experienced of the potential challenges and difficulties that arise in group settings. I have been responsible for running meetings and assigning task to 12 other executives. I organized many events and had to go through many processes to get funding from York, and book rooms for events through YFS or sign up to run a table through SCLD. I am a leader and my familiar with York policies and opportunities, I would best utilize the availabilities and recourses that are offered.

Post: VICE PRESIDENT
Candidate name: Ryan Wardle
Campaign paragraph:
Hi everyone, Iím Ryan and I am also running for Vice President of the Pre Law Society. My experience as the Sponsorship Coordinator this academic year equips me with the tools and experience needed to be an effective Vice President. I would work over the summer to create, develop, and build on events this year generating a more beneficial experience to our members. As an executive team member this year, and an active member for the past two, I have developed a strong understanding of how the Pre Law Society operates. With this knowledge, it would not be a problem for me to assume presidential duties in the absence of the president. My primary objective as the vice president would be to attract new corporate sponsors and develop new and exciting events for our members. I look forward to meeting and working for all of you in the upcoming year!

Post: VICE PRESIDENT
Candidate name: Roshan Udit
Campaign paragraph:
My name is Roshan Udit and I am currently a third year student majoring in Criminology. It is my desire to attend law school upon completion of my B.A. I joined PLSY in my second year with hopes of bettering my chance of admittance to law school. Accordingly, this organization has provided me with guidance necessary to achieve success in this journey. I have thus been able to strengthen my social and academic life. With this in mind, I feel that it is my conglomerate to support PLSY members in acquiring the same goal. The position of Vice President will best allow me to do so.
A Promise: If elected as Vice President, I assure you with immense confidence that if opportunities are given to me, I will dedicate myself to work towards the betterment of this organization.

Post: VICE PRESIDENT
Candidate name: Michael Lipson
Campaign paragraph:
If I were elected, I would like to arrange for prominent lawyers to speak and provide students with advice in many different law categories to give students the chance to get a better feel for what life as a lawyer would entail. I would also like to arrange mock LSAT tests, so members can have a chance to write the test in regular LSAT conditions, as a means of preparations for the big day. Regular meetings, social gatherings, and discussions would also be part of my contribution, as we can simply enjoy the company of our fellow students discussing current trials throughout the world.Lastly, I would like to arrange for current law students to come in regularly and give their tips about how to get into the law school of your choice. If you vote for me, I will do my best to accommodate everyoneís needs and requests. Happy voting!

Post: VICE PRESIDENT
Candidate name: Alana Chan

Without aspirations there are no achievements and I am definitely one determined person.

POST: SECRETARY
Candidate name: Nathalie Filarski
Campaign paragraph:
I have been a member of the Pre-Law Society at York for the past year and now I want to contribute to the club in a greater way by becoming part of the executive team in the role of secretary. I like helping others and I have always given advice to aspiring law students but never in a formal setting yet. I have previous experience as secretary for the past two years and was also simultaneously the event coordinator this year at the Polish Student's Association at York. It has given me indispensable skills and experience that I will gladly incorporate to being secretary for Prelaw Society. By becoming an executive, I want to carry the great torch and legacy that the past executives have left, and make sure that next year is just as great as this one was with lots of informative events and helpful tips made available to our members.
