Rajat Bhardwaj
A third year linguistics and psychology major, planning to attend law school in 2011. I am the current Sponsorship Coordinator for the Pre- Law society.

My experience on the executive team has been rewarding. It has not only led to personal development but also allowed me to contribute to the PLSY. As a sponsorship coordinator, I maintained PLSY's communication with our various sponsors and helped organize events. My initiatives this year included coordinating with new sponsors, drafting our new sponsorship contract, and introducing an immigration law firm to our panel of presenting lawyers. Furthermore, I answered member queries and regularly updated our Facebook group.

I am very keen on helping PLSY evolve as a society and have promoted member's input throughout my term as Sponsorship Coordinator. As the president, I will not only continue such efforts but also help expand further our list of guest speakers.

I posses the skills to become president as I have successfully multitasked holding a research position, attending university full-time, being a PLSY executive assistant, peer mentoring youth and maintaining my hobbies and interests. Communications skills, leadership, punctuality and teamwork are all highlighted by my experience.

Rajat Bhardwaj is a name that our sponsors already know and trust. I am confident that as president of the PLSY I will not only continue to strengthen ties with our sponsors but also help our members network and gain exposure to the law school application process.

The Vice-President is responsible for:
) Assisting the President in all duties
) Booking rooms/tabling
) Assisting in event planning and signups
) Assuming presidential duties in the absence of the President

Dawood Nasir
Dear friends- I will not bore you with details regarding my general affinity towards political office, nor paint for you the rich tapestry of my troubled boyhood. In lieu of all this, allow me simply to ask you for the consideration of a tremendously significant position based on no previous experience whatsoever. Thank you.

Ariel Rososhansky
I believe I am the ideal candidate for the Vice-President position in the pre-law association because I have a lot I believe I could contribute to the club. If I was to get elected, I will do everything within my power to work alongside the president and the rest of the executive committee to host as many work-shops and events as possible. I will make sure that within these events, future law students will get all the questions answered regarding law school they might have, and those which they have not thought of yet; I will also do my best to host events with actual first year law students from several different law schools to come in and talk to us-the undergraduate populace- regarding their experiences in law school. In conclusion, I promise if I get elected I will do anything I possibly can to make PLSY the number one source for any undergraduate student to get their questions answered regarding Law School, and give them all the more reasons to want to go to Law School.

Fatima Mohammad
I am a third year student majoring in Women’s Studies and South Asian Studies and planning to attend law school in 2011. I have been an active member of the Pre-Law Society for the past two years and would like to become more involved in the coming year. I feel confident that I will able to fulfill the demands that the vice-president position entails, such as booking tables and rooms for events and meetings as well as assisting in planning of events and sign-ups. I am a responsible and devoted individual with exceptional management skills, which will definitely be an asset to the PLSY. I, as vice-president, will strive to ensure an event filled year and a positive experience with the PLSY for all members. I look forward to working together and contributing to the PLSY for 2010-2011.

Daniel Klein
Dear Fellow Future Lawyers,

My name is Daniel Klein and I am currently a third year student majoring in economics. This year I was Chair of Communications at the Exploring Law club where I helped organize events to teach and educate students about anything regarding the law, from the legal system to specific law school application questions.

I have wanted to become a lawyer longer than I can remember. The Pre-Law Society at York has helped me understand the difficult application process and has answered the million questions that I had before I began this journey. As a result, I hope to give back to my fellow students and help them in their search of becoming a lawyer through being the Vice-President of the PLSY.

With your help and votes, I hope to be an excellent Vice-President and organize a record number of events!

Sincerely,
Daniel Klein

Karen Fridlyand
I would like to nominate myself for the position of Vice President for the PreLaw Society at York University. I have attended a handful of events during the school year and have enjoyed them very much. They have been extremely useful to me during my application process. In the past, I have had extensive experience on student clubs. I have served as both President and Vice President of the Student Council. I was also a first year residence representative and member of the Social Science Student Council. I have also been part of Peer Mentoring for McLaughlin College, and am a student note taker for a classmate with special needs.

I am also a very organized and detail-oriented person. I have been committed to academic achievement throughout my career, and have been awarded for my academic success. I am a member of the Golden Key Honors Society and Academic Achievement List at York University. In addition, I will be going through the law school application process this coming fall.

Thank you for considering me for the position of Vice President.

Sincerely,
Karen Fridlyand

Jaime Mor
What’s up everybody, my name’s Jaime Mor and I’m running for Vice-President of the Pre-Law Society. This past year I’ve held one of the two Promotions Coordinator positions, and am ready to step up into the big leagues of the PLSY executive team. If you’ve stopped by at any point this year while we were tabling in the Ross building, or came out to a few events, you’ve probably already spoken with me once or twice, and hopefully been dazzled by my boyish charms.

I’m a 2nd year sociology student gearing up for a run at law school applications this upcoming year. I am currently working at the Ontario Court of Justice in the Duty Council Office, where I’ve assisted in interviewing clients for bail hearings, designing information pamphlets, collecting and delivering messages to courtrooms, and – most importantly – mastered the complex art of photocopying. This summer I hope to get even more experience in the area of Criminal law while working as an intern at a private firm.

While I’m predominantly a social guy who likes to meet people and have a good time, I want to emphasize that I do have a great deal of experience in running clubs - I ran several in high school and have had executive experience on two clubs other than PLSY thus far in University. As a result, I feel that I am well qualified for this position, and will do my part in making next year the PLSY’s best year yet.

The Secretary is responsible for:
) Managing the PLSY e-mail account (s) which includes:
& Responding to all emailed inquiries
& Notifying members of upcoming events and meetings
& Checking the account on a minimum of a weekly basis.
& Keeping a record of all Executive meeting minutes

Jacqueline Perlin
My name is Jacqueline Perlin and I am a second year Political Science major. I have always been interested in the study of Canadian law and the Canadian legal system, and I intend to go to law school following completion of my undergraduate degree. I am familiar with the pre-requisites required for entrance into law school, as I have attended various information sessions with the Pre-Law Society at York, which have also allowed me to gain a better understanding of what interests me in the field of law. I am fairly certain that I would like to focus on environmental law, as I am passionate about the impacts of human activity on both the natural environment and humanity itself. I am confident that I will be able to fulfill the obligations for secretary, as my previous positions (such as working as a staff writer for Excalibur Publications at York University) have taught me how to handle even the most challenging of situations as a result of well developed communication skills and organizing capabilities. I am highly motivated, determined, and adapt easily to group situations. I recognize that secretary is a position which requires not only organizing capabilities but also a great deal of group work, and I am positive that my experiences of working with and leading groups will align itself directly with the environment of the pre-law society.

Marcela Slinin
My name is Marcela Slinin and I will be entering my fourth year at York this September, majoring in Health and Society. I will be applying for law school later this year with the long-term goal of focusing on immigration law, an area that has impacted me both through my personal experiences and within my community.

I am certain I am qualified for this position due to my strong group work and organizational skills. I am a responsible, flexible individual who can devote time and energy to the Pre-Law Society at York. Furthermore, this year I held a junior executive position, webmaster, which not only familiarized me with club practices and procedures, but honed my skills as a team player. My prior experience with the Pre-Law Society means that I have been present at several events throughout the school year, from guest lectures to law school presentations, giving me both planning experience and knowledge about all aspects of law school and law school applications. In addition, I have done some secretarial work for the club in the past. It is because of these reasons that I know I can be a vital addition to next year’s Pre-Law team.

Shivanni Sankar
My name is Shivanni Sankar and I am a second year student pursuing my Honours Bachelor Degree in Psychology. For a very long time I have had a deep interest in the law and I am very curious about the criminal mind: which combines aspects from both psychological and legal studies. My courses in anthropological studies have also piqued my interest in human rights for marginalized people. My fascination with the law and my experiences make me an excellent candidate for PLSY’s 2010-2011 Secretary. I was a legal assistant and that job required a diligent work ethic. My responsibilities included keeping detailed records, corresponding with clients and keeping important files and documents easily accessible. I will be serving as Secretary for the Undergraduate Psychology Student Association for the 2010-2011 school year. Many of my responsibilities with both positions will be similar; so I will have the knowledge and understanding to carry out the job effectively. I have been a committed member of the Pre-Law Society since I first joined in my first year and returned in my second. This past summer I was a Frosh Leader and intend on continuing this role for the upcoming summer. I believe it is important to connect students with like-minded peers and offering them the information they need to make the appropriate choices in university. The Pre-Law Society offers all of this and I would love the opportunity to contribute my skills to this wonderful organization.
The Treasurer is responsible for:
) All financial activity of the PLSY including any bank accounts or petty cash accounts
) Coordination all charity and fundraising events in conjunction with the President

Eric Zorn
I believe that I would be the best treasurer for the Pre-Law Society. Organization is important, and when dealing with money it is crucial. The treasurer is responsible for keeping the books in order, and I would do exactly that, and more. I envision a much bigger Pre-Law Society. The legal-world is all about networking, and hopefully next year we, as a club, can have more social events along with a steady stream of educational events to ensure that when you begin to apply, when you are accepted, and when you graduate from law school, you will already have a strong foundation of peers to support you. As an executive I would help in the planning and facilitation of events, the overseeing of bank accounts and petty cash transactions, and the record keeping of membership sign-ups. Among many other things, I envision a streamlined membership process, and even though you should keep your membership cards on you at all events, we as executives should keep our records with us at all events as well. Face it, nobody likes having to pay for a new membership when they’ve already forgot their wallet at home!

Sam Zadeh
Having been an active member of the Pre-Law Society at York since 2008, I am interested in applying for the executive team position of Treasurer. I am going into my fourth year at York, completing a Specialized Bachelor of Arts in Financial and Business Economics. This degree has instilled in me a strong background in accounting and finance, which is essential for anyone wishing to hold this position. The qualities that make me an ideal candidate for this position are my strong sense of initiative and my organizational skills. Both of these skills enabled me to complete a full-year internship at Ontario Power Generation during the 2009-2010 academic session, while completing several night courses. This work experience allowed me to both apply and develop my asset management skills, while working for the Strategic Programming unit of this company. It has also provided me with a strong sense of professionalism, which I hope to bring to the society. I would like to increase my involvement in PLSY because it has provided me with a great deal of benefits while pursuing my interest in a career in corporate energy law. By becoming Treasurer, I will be in the best position to give back and ensure that the PLSY experience for students will continue to be a great one in the future. I look forward to the challenge if elected.
