PUBLISHING IN PROBLÉMATIQUE

Submission Guidelines

We invite the submission of academic essays and other academic works of quality, no more than 25 pages (c. 6000 words) in length in English or French. We also accept book reviews of no more than 4-5 pages (c. 1000 words) in length, as well as political cartoons or photographs for our online journal.

Each issue of Problématique is organized around a broad theme, and our editorial board often makes suggestions for possible subthemes. However, we also encourage submissions on any issue relevant to politics, culture, and society, as often the themed articles only constitute one part of the journal. Academic essays broadly pertaining to the topic in the areas of political economy, cultural studies, feminist studies, political theory, area studies, postcolonial studies and international relations are especially encouraged.

Master's students as well as doctoral students are strongly encouraged to submit their academic work.

Submissions should be sent as email attachments to problematiquejournal@yahoo.ca. They should be double-spaced and in Word format, with proper parenthetical citations or footnoting. All submissions are anonymously reviewed: the author's name (including contact information) should appear on a separate title page only.

Please feel free to contact the Editorial Collective with any questions, and see the Call for Papers for additional information.

Critical Reviewers

Problématique's Critical Reviewers are usually, though not exclusively, members of the Graduate Programme in Political Science at York University. Reviewers are asked to anonymously read and review 1 to 2 papers, each up to 25 double-spaced pages in length, that have been submitted for the forthcoming issue. Reviewers suggest whether they think the paper should be published and offer suggestions for possible revisions, taking into account both the substance of the paper and Problématique's stylistic guidelines.

To ensure honest feedback, the review process is both blind and anonymous: reviewers do not know the name of the author for the paper they are reviewing, and authors do not know who reviewed their papers.

We will also try our best to provide reviewers with papers in accord with her/his area(s) of interest and expertise.
