1. For information about tuition credits:
CREDIT.htm
THERE WILL BE NO TUITION CREDIT FOR COURSES FOR
WHICH YOU HAVE NOT PAID IN FULL BY 1 MARCH 2009. IF YOU PAY
IN PERSON THIS EFFECTIVELY MEANS FRIDAY 27 FEBRUARY 2009.
I can find nothing about a 12% rebate.
Graduating students who have satisfied or will have satisfied all
requirements at the end of Winter Term, will have had to have paid
tuition in
full by 1 March for any courses for which they wish to negotiate a
refund. If YSF is advertising any
kind of rebate, you should take up the issue with YSF.
The steps for obtaining credit for tuition paid for courses
that you plan to drop seem to be as follows:
A. Make sure that you have paid full tuition for
the courses that you wish to drop and for which you wish to
receive tuition credit. The deadline for this is 1
March 2009.
B. Pick up and fill out an
application form:
http://www.registrar.yorku.ca/pdf/tuition_credit_application.pdf
C. Drop the courses on line. Do not try step C
until you have completed A and B AND talked to your
instructors about the wisdom of your dropping the course. The
deadline for dropping Fall courses is 10 March and full year
courses 3 April. You must use your credit for Winter and/or
Summer courses this year and/or Fall/Winter courses in 2009-2010.
Credits will expire on 30 April 2010.
Tuition credit can only be applied to courses at York. Dropped
courses disappear from your transcript. If you think that you have
a case for a refund on a tuition credit that can not be applied to
courses at York, take your case to the Bennett Centre where you
will be instructed on how to prepare a petition.
Those who have already dropped courses are eligible for the
tuition credit. I assume that the credit can be applied to
courses at Seneca-York. I assume that credits can not be applied
to other campuses of Seneca. The tuition credit may be applied to
any course at York for which you are qualified. Although you may
wish to take the fourth year course in Greek -which I highly
recommend -, you will not survive past the first day unless you have
two previous years of Ancient Greek, also highly recommended.
Design students and some Education students returned before the
strike was over. Their courses in Design or Education are not
eligible for the tuition credit. These students, however, might
try petitioning if they believe that they have a valid case. Go
to the Bennett Centre to begin the process.
There is no tuition rebate
except by petition. Students who have a case for a rebate must go
to the Bennett Centre to find out how to start the process.
IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CREDIT AND
WHETHER YOUR APPLICATION WAS RECEIVED, CONTACT THE BENNETT CENTRE
DIRECTLY. THERE ARE VARIOUS ADDRESSES AND CONTACTS IN THE
INFORMATION IN THE LINK SHOWN ABOVE.
2. Winter Term begins on Wednesday!
